  • college food is the devil!!!

:anger :anger Can I just say how mad I am at the college food they serve us here? It isn't exactly cavier, but if you're on Atkins like I am on my campus, forget it here. Breakfast is fine since I have scrambled eggs and bacon. But lunch and dinner it's all carbs: spaghetti, potatoes, french fries, pizza, etc. and the one time they have chicken it's glazed over, fried in fatty oil, or whatever. So I'm used to ordering from the grill for two cheeseburgers with no bun and get weird looks. :anger This weekend I went to two conferences at my college and it was carb city central when they wheeled out the food. Colleges should have some friendly Atkins food man, cuz this ain't fair. :nono

Buying carbs like potatoes and pasta is much cheaper than buying good quality meats, or even seafood. Most places that cater for a large number go for the cheaper option. Plus, as always, we have been educated to follow the food pyramid of more carbs, fruits compared to meats, fats & oils. Is it possible for you to buy some ingredients for your own salads? Maybe take whatever meat they serve in the college, and just buy one cucumber, one tomato and a small head of lettuce? These would keep out of the fridge a couple of days, and though you may get sick of it after a while, it'll will ensure you have one healthy salad with sliced meat meal a day?

In the meanwhile... hurry up, study and get out college!

i totally understand!!! at your cafe is there a sandwich line or anything? b/c u can just grab some chedder cheese and turkey and then have a small salad for lunch....dinner is a tuffy...you could just have a lot of cold cuts or a salad...but getting the cheese burgers is a good idea...it's strange tho that people look at you weird, in both my current and old campuses every one (esp the girls) asked for hamburgers "w/out buns".
If there is nothing ediable that is also akinsable then I suggest you go to your local supper market and pick up some stuff like canned tuna so that you can make food yourself!
      good luck!

Yup, it's in Weston. And no, I'm not studying to be a teacher, although that is a big major in our school along with nursing. I'm a Communications major double minioring in English and History (don't ask) lol.

As for the shaws thing, I try to go shopping once a week and stock up on Atkins induction friendly food. This helps me out because sometimes I'm sick of eating salad and cheeseburgers with no bun every day. lol
