  • Starting week 4, only 4 lbs lost :(

    Hi there...
this sounds like my same story....I started Induction with TOM and I lost 4lbs the first week. I am starting week 4 today and I am still stuck at only 4lbs lost.....my measurements are the same except for the waist (and I suspect it is lower just because week 1 was TOM)....anyway, that being said, I did have a cheats here and there...so I cant be too sad about it.....
I just started week 4 today and I am cutting some things out...like the 2-3 splenda and sometimes caffeine....and the atkins bars.
    I also just bought L-Caratiene and Co-10....
    Starting weight: 161 (TOM)
    week 1: 157.4
    week 2: 157.4
    week 3: 156.8

Well, having already lost 4 pounds and with about 30 pounds more to lose I doubt if you are one of those people that Dr Atkins suggested would benefit from prolonging your induction phase.
So as well as dropping those bars (which contain non-induction ingredients - check the ingredients list on the labels) maybe it is time to move to the main weightloss phase of Atkins now?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You think so? About moving to OWL? I mean, could it hurt me to stay on Induction for a longer time? I didnt think it could, I thought it would just help....I mean, he doesnt really specify in the book how much you have to weight in order to stay in Induction....does he? maybe I missed it...I just want to get results....and I've been stuck....but maybe its because I didnt do it 100%, it was more like 80%....so this week, I am sticking to it to see if I get better results.....I'll be happy with 2-3lbs gone....
      thanks for your advice!

In chapter 13 he says this
In order to decide if this is the right time for you to move on, I suggest you answer the following four questions:
        1. Are you bored with Induction?
        2. How much weight do you have to lose?
        3. How metabolically resistant are you to weight loss?
        4. Are you willing to slow down the pace of weight loss in exchange for more food choices?
If you are bored, and this boredom could lead to not complying with the Rules of Induction, by all means move on to OWL after two weeks. However, if you are comfortable staying in this phase, and you still have a lot of weight to lose, you can do Induction safely for six months or more. If you do not have much more weight to lose, it is advisable for you to advance to OWL so you can cycle through all the phases of the program.
Somewhere else in DANDR he mentions that someone having over 50 pounds to lose might benefit from an extended induction, so to my mind that was the 'cutoff point' he meant.
On ADBB we see many people with a similar amount as you have left to lose who stick on induction for many weeks and lose very little, but whose weightloss restarts once they moved to OWL
I just want to get results....and I've been stuck....but maybe its because I didnt do it 100%, it was more like 80%....so this week, I am sticking to it to see if I get better results.....I'll be happy with 2-3lbs gone....
        thanks for your advice!
Maybe try one more week on induction without the bars if you really want to, but read up on OWL in preparation for the move to the great OWL adventure where you will discover if any new foods affect you adversely as well as how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight!!

Re: Starting week 4, only 4 lbs lost

I am actually at the exact same point as you, it sounds like. Starting my fourth week and only down 4.8 pounds...sooo aggravating! I've been snacking on the bars too (about one every two days...) So I think I will cut those out too. Any other suggestions of foods to eat (I've studied the list) would be great. What do you think about eggs, are they okay? and we are supposed to drink LOTS of water, right? Thanks!

if you plug your foods into soemthing like the free fitday.com site check your nutrtional reports and see if you are dficient in any vitsand/or minerals cause beling defcient in many of them can slow weight loss.

it is hard to get all the vits and minerals we need from the induction foods lists.

what are you doing for your mandatory exercise part of your atkins?

If you've seen the Acceptable Foods List, then you should know that eggs are okay.

we are supposed to drink LOTS of water, right?
A minimum of 64 oz per day. Many people do best drinking more than that though.

Are you reading the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution?

Re: Starting week 4, only 4 lbs lost

I am not reading the book right now, I've been going according to the website. My friend recommended the book to me the other day however, so I think I will try to get my hands on a copy, she said it was her mothers constant reference when she was on the diet.

I know that eggs are on the list it just seems like when I include them in my diet my loss stops completely or reverses. This may be due to another mistake I made with out knowing it too though.

Anyone have any good ideas for take along snacks? I spend my days at work and on a college campus where I can't really bring chicken to heat up. I've tried to munch on pork skins but I can only handle a small few of those every couple of days, I don't find them too appetizing. Any ideas?

Why do you need snacks? You should eat good meals with fat and protein.
Snacks are OK but only if you eat them because you are hungry - not if you eat them because of habit or boredom.
I usually travel around with boiled eggs, maybe cheese sticks and a few cut up veggies. You can probably bring a lunch bag with ice packs to work. It solves all issues for me.
