  • What do I do Now? Start over?

I've been following the book and atkins for 3 weeks and finally lost around 18 lbs so far. However, yesterday had some marital problems ( almost me leaving) and ate like a cow whatever i could get a hold of. i had chips and salsa from chili's restaurant and big mouth bits with fries and a strawberry lemonade. Also i had chocolate and skittles. I was originally just on the introduction extended so should i just pick up where i left off or start over from day 1?

    thanks already =)

Sorry to hear about your problems. I ,too, am an emotional eater. Whatever you do don't be too hard on yourself. Yesterday, I had a little brain fart and ate some sugar free chocolate that I shouldn't have. I am on Extended Induction and today I just continued as normal. I am, however, exercising a little harder today, and drinking more water.

Also, I notice today that I am a little more sluggish then I have been. My energy, as of late, has been off the charts. I am thinking it may have something to do with the extra carbs. So, if you start feeling unenergized and a little BLAH, Don't stress over it. You will be back to normal soon. Good Luck and Hang in there!

Emotional eating is a battle many of us have to fight when life throws a hurdle in our way

However at those times often the only thing you can have any control over is what you decide to put in your mouth. So just try to get back on track and eat to plan from the very next bite!

As you now have about 40-odd pounds left to lose I would only stay on induction till any cravings for off-plan foods have gone then start up the OWL ladder to start to expand your food choices.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

i def feel horrible i feel bloated and my stomach hurts along with i feel extremely sluggish so i know its due to the carb overload so just continue on? This morning I weighed and it was 187.4 while yesterday morning I was 179.2 so a huge huge huge difference. def have to control my emotional eating. but i think from this experience i know how to control it and what to do instead eating a billion carbs.

glad you are back on track and not off on a week or month long binge.
14 day induction isn't a punishment for cheating so just do a few days of induction to get back into ketosis if you are still out and them move back to where ever you were when your off plan eatting occurred.

            Hang in there

one trick you can use to help your emotional eating is to say to yourself I'm not going to give ________ the power over me to ruin the hard work I've done becoming the healtheir person I am.
Another trick is to identify what you are feeling that your brain is trying to medicate with foods and then do something that will assist your body to fix the not feeling good chemicals with some natural feel good ones. exercise can work great for the blues, stress, and anger cause they use up the not healthy chemicals those emotions create and generate some feel good brain chemicals that last longer then the ones the high carb foods we binge on will fix.

Part of that is water weight, which should go away after a few days back on plan.

Re: What do I do Now? Start over?

I am a night eater - something I'm trying quite desperately to control - it's not physical, I just want it I think for "entertainment" while I watch tv or read a book and though I don't "crave" it I don't think, but I dwell on it. I make sure to have a small bowl of tuna mixed with mayo and a bit of freshly gr pepper and some pork skins in the house all the time - if I MUST eat just for eating's sake, then I will stuff what is proper for me into my mouth rather than turn to something that will do actual harm. It has kept me from even wishing for something forbidden - if I can munch and munch on allowed foods, I will be ok and eventually conquer this "night eating" demon.

Perhaps if you keep an envelope of tuna in the house all the time with some fried pork skins, you will be better off. Fast, easy, within minutes you have the comfort food you know you are going to eat anyway - so eat what you can have.

Just a thought which I hope helps you as it has me.

                  >>an envelope of tuna>>

Be careful of the ingredients here.

                  >>within minutes you have the comfort food you know you are going to eat anyway>>

It's also a good idea to do the inner housework on why you're using food for "comfort" and to break the habit.

I am a little confused by the statement you made about tuna. Is tuna bad? Or are you saying putting additional items in the tuna makes it bad? When I put tuna and mayo in to fitday it was very low in carbs.

You have to read the list of ingredients - always. Some manufacturers add stuff to their tuna. We just had a discussion about that.

J and others are also worried about the mercury content in some tuna.

ehh now I have learned my lesson about emotional eating and how not to eat emotionally. I am still no where close to where I was but with patience I am still going to stay on with this lifestyle. I have found that I am more happy leading the Atkins life and I love the support of this board =) I am however having absolutely horrible cravings for anything sweet or anything with bread I am managing these quite well by getting out of the house and such but they are still here.. any ideas for those? thanks again to all of you =)

Some peope have luck with l-glutamine (it is a supplement Atkins recommend) for cravings - you may want to look into that.
I also like to look through my menu carefully if I get craving. Because there are things that I eat that will make me want to eat something else. I have this trouble with coffee for instance. If I have coffee I crave chocolate becasue of some old habit I had. This does not go away easily. I have to manage it. And sometimes something sweet or illegal sneaks in and sets me off in the wrong direction. So I have to eliminate that

Cravings is often situation related to so changing up your routine is good to do.

I suggest moving up the rungs so that you can try to make flax muffin once in awhile.

You are not going to like this, but craving for foods not on the induction list it one of the reasons to move to OWL. I too had that I need bread craving going on so I answered yes to the question about wanting more food chices and moved to OWL after doing an extended induction. Still had lots to lose but I followed Dr Atkins recommendations and moved.

The strange thing was once bread was legal for me and I got some I ate a few slices and froze the rest and it sat in my freezer for yrs cause once it was legal I didn't want it so much any more. Now I have low carb recipes for bread that are legal for Atkins OWL and I will eat a bun with my burger if I want one or a tortilla wrap occasionally but no bread witrh a sweet cause that is a triggerring food for me.

Since you are having cravings answer the Ws who what when where why and how you are feeling before during and an hour after you eat so you can find the triggerring events for you. For me celery and anything sweetened with Splenda was a triggerring food for me and eating with my younger diabetic sister who was eating out of control was a triggerring event. Even though i ate perfectly on plan the stress of seeing what she was doing to her body caused me stress that hours later erupted in a full blown I need sweets emotional eating freenzy that was very hard to control. Folk who were here abck then know I ended up having to not eat with her. We could visit we could go out but eating was off the visitation events. FInd what is causing your wantings and you have won the battle when you eliminate them from your life.
