    Hi I'm a Newbie

I started on Atkins two weeks ago and only lost 5 pounds. I realized after looking at the message boards that not only would I have to follow the rules of induction (which I've been doing), stay off the scale but that I would also need a tape measure (went out and bought one today). I was getting really depressed at the beginning to see that I only lost 5 pounds, I figured I should have lost more. I was always a big water drinker so I know that isn't the problem. I also know that I've been counting the carbs correctly because I check them against the Atkins carb counter and fitday. I didn't realize how important exercise was until I started reading up on the message boards and now I'm back on my treadmill for a minimum of 40 minutes a day. I had stopped doing it because i had broken my ankle. no choice there. Anyway I'd like to keep up with this message board because so far it has given me more info than anywhere else that I've searched, besides the books. here is one of my typical meals for the day

    2 eggs
    2 slices bacon
    2 decaf
2 tbsp half & half - read on the atkins site that you can use half & half

    salmon
    small tomato
    club soda

    steak, chicken or pork
    2 cups salad
    2 tbs low carb dressing

Since I haven't been doing the exercising I am starting the induction phase again and hopfully will lose more than 5 pounds. I now have a tape measure to measure myself too. Hope these next two weeks go better than the first two

No way. You are lighter than when you began right? Keep in mind as you go when you exercise and build muscle then you may weigh more because muscle weighs more than fat. That is why everyone suggests using a tape measure more so than a scale. We are here for you.

Welcome, Welcome!! You are doing so good. 5 pounds in the first two weeks! Cool!! I am a big water drinker too, however I have been my whole life. I think that I have to cook regular for my kids and husband actually helps to avoid temptation!! I do ocassionally have a bite of my daughters mac and cheese. It only confirms the fact that I don't like the taste of it anymore. I think it is the smell that makes it a comfort food.

Congrats on the weight loss! I am new here too. :wave

Give up the half and half. Use heavy whipping cream ONLY. 3 tablespoons per day. :nod

never heard of using the heavy cream instead of half and half. is it less carbs?? or just more fat?? and does it really make a difference? wow all these questions.

Page 129 of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution says "one ounce of sour cream or 3 ounces of unsweetened heavy cream..." This is listed under Special Category Foods.

Page 230 says Cream (heavy, light or sour, two or three tablespoons)

The book never mentions half and half. The heavy cream I use has no carbs. I dont know what half and half says.

If you want to, do a search on this board for heavy whipping cream so get more answers.

I'm assuming light cream means half and half and there is 1 carb in a tablespoon. I use one tbsp per cup of decaf coffee and usually have only 2 per day

well I got on the scale this morning, i know a big no no but just wanted to see if the treadmill was actually doing anything for me and sure enough it is. i dropped 3 pounds. well i guess i'll keep the treadmill and the diet lol. i'm ecstatic this morning. it's going to be a good day. oh and i did use heavy whipping cream in my decaf this morning. does anyone know when i can switch to regular coffee even though i do feel better on the decaf. once in awhile a real coffee would be nice
