  • Costco hot dog, no bun

Would this be allowed? I can't figure out what type of the Hebrew brand hot dogs the fast food vender at the Costco's sells. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it - if I can have one (only a bit of mustard, no bun) I plan on my dinner tomorrow right now. I read somewhere that it had only 1 carb but I don't know about added "stuff" that might be in it, like sugars.
    Thanks!

If it's the Costco brand, there is added sugar. IIRC, it's 5 grams carbs per dog, w/ 2 as fiber. I think sugar was third on the list behind beef & water.

My COSTCO sells Hebrew National beef franks. A quick look at their website says the following:
INGREDIENTS: Beef, Water, Contains 2% or less of: Salt, Sodium Lactate, Spice, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Paprika, Sodium Diacetate, Garlic Powder, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite, Flavorings. CONTAINS: Soy

The fast food vendor may be selling a product that they do not even carry at the store. It may be a product only available to food establishments that is ordered through a restaurant supply vendor. Guessing won't give you an answer, but contacting the store directly will get you closer to the answer.

I don't shop at Costco, so I can't say what they sell, but according to this and two other articles I read on the Interwebs, Costco does not sell Hebrew Nat Dogs anymore. I don't know it that is accurate, but for what it's worth--see this article which appears to be from Costco itself. You will probably need to use the Zoom feature.

I agree with waht some of the other posters have suggested
Ask the vendor what is in them or for the manufacturer's name so you can ask them direct. If you say you need to know the ingredients as you suspect your body has some food intolerances I can't see why they would not be willing to give you the info you need.

Re: Costco hot dog, no bun

O.K so I checked it out at my local Costco yesterday.

At mine, they showed me the boxes which the hot dogs they use at the ventor AND the polish sausage they also sell with the ingredients on the back - both had some sort of sugar in them, I remember being very surprised that in the hot dog, it was the third ingredient
                  listed if I remember correctly.

However, I found a delicious sausage there in the meat case in the back: it's called

Chef Aidells fully cooked Roasted Garlic & Gruyere Cheese smoked chicken sausage, chicken with no hormones, no gluten, no msg.

                  incredients:
chicken, swiss cheese, pasturized milk, cheese culture, salt and enzymes, roasted garliz, salt, vinegar, gruyere cheese parsley, spices and celery powder encased in pork casing.

                  dietary fiber 2 g
                  sugars: 0
                  protein 14 g

I don't know how much cheese would have to be counted when having this product, but I don't eat much cheese at all to begin with and not the daily allotment when I do indulge - so for me it wasn't an issue I concerned myself about. Obviously from the ingredient listing, it contains a lot though. I would be on the safe side and count it as two serving allotment.

We each had one last night (I slowly sauted it in a non-stick pan in it's own released juice) and both of us declared it delicious and extremely flavorful.

I don't know if it would really work great on a grill since the cheese from the sausage quickly began to release once it heated up - an indication to me that it was pretty much heated up and ready to eat.

At wall mart, I did look into the brand which is listed above, the Hebrew, and though it contained no sugars I could tell, it did contain a carb or two, but from what I could't decipher - so I passed on them.

                  I hope this helps!

Re: Costco hot dog, no bun

it should tell you one your package how much each sausage weighs so you can see if it has more then one serving of cheese in it.

don't forget spices and herbs have carbs too and most hotdogs have many of them

I bought the hebrew national. I did notice the low fat ones contained sugar but the regular ones didn't.

DH and I each had a couple last night and both of us are up today, him 1lb, me 2lbs. Only thing different we had and that's a big jump my weight flutuates but not that much. I wonder if the sodium is high in them. Need to get the package out and see. Think I'll skip on them from now on. They were good but not that good LOL

That sausage sound yummy. No costco here though.

                        I'm math disabled!

The package is 48oz or 3 pounds and there are 8 links per package - fat links at that.

I keep my carb count slightly below allowed so that the spices/herbs I do use can't possibly take me over the top - so far it must be working because despite the 64 or more oz I drink of water, I still manage to stay in ketosis and am losing weight. Perhaps as I begin to add more carbs to my diet this way will have to change.

Poobears - hotdogs typically have a lot of sodium. I'd check the package.

Yep I checked and they have almost 500mg per hot dog. I had 2 that's almost 1000mg. Way too much for me. I've always been sensitive to sodium I swell so bad when I eat salty stuff.

Should have looked before I bought them. Lesson learned. I've been chugging extra water today, it seems to be working, all the puffyness in my hands is gone. I'll stick to real meat I fix myself for now.

                            Thanks

Costco hot dog are two kinds Hebrew National and Polish Dogs. I think Hebrew nation has lower carbs . you could use mustard for sure, other sauces like Relish and ketchup I would not recommend. to be frank why dont you eat the rotisserie chicken .
I don't trust the processed meat staff . they all have hidden carbs. If you like hot dogs must buy those chicken hot hogs that have zero carbs. they sell them at Costco.
