  • Two product questions for experienced Atkins folks?

I've been doing some reading for a bit down the road when I will be introducing other things into my diet.

I have read a great deal about Atkins bake mix and thickandthin. Are these products you use a great deal, should I plan to have them on my shelf? Can they be frozen and used as needed, just portion thawed?

    Thanks!

When I get to Maintenance I will NEVER use the Atkins Bake Mix or other soy-based bake mixes. There are lots of recipes for DIY lower carb flour/baking mixes that don't use soy. I started eating a pretty much whole food diet a couple years ago (even before Atkins) and don't plan on changing that.

I've become used to sauces that are thinner than the gloopy gravies that I used to have and normally use either pureed veggies or pumpkin or make a reduction. I do have a package of xanthan gum but have never used it but would not be opposed to trying ThickThinNotStarch as it is a mixture of several natural gums.

I don't see either of these products as something one needs for tasty cuisine.

Do they still make that stuff? I remember hearing it tasted horrid,

They do still make it. I'll be darned. It is a soy product and I don't like the taste. I think you could probably freeze it and it might keep longer. But I am kinna with Mizsky, when I get to that level, I think I'll go with the real whole wheat stuff.

The concoction from the Atkins company is soy, gluten and bran - so buying these things locally and mixing my own is cheaper for me. I also like to keep my soy consumption down so I like to add some nuts and whey instead of using that much soy protein. I like it.
I don't use think and thin but I have heard it is good. Again I buy what I can find here and that is either xanthan gum or guar gum.

further down the road you might want to get some Wheat protein isolate some whey protein isolate or just whey protein powder and make your own mix that you control the contents of.

many folk bake with ground nut or seed flours.

I would not give them that much money ofr something that is basically low carb bisquik you can make your own as we have several recipes ofr it here. they should be in the low carb cooking section or the recipe section.
