it sounds like restless legs to me...
as for the sleepy, you probably aren't getting enough calories.

Ketosis has a diuretic effect and it's also difficult to get all the minerals you need from a 20 net carb Induction menu, so your leg cramps could be due to an electrolyte imbalance. You can check your vitamins and minerals in FitDay to see where you're at.

this week ive been soo soo tired is this normal?
How many calories are you consuming on average?

How many net carbs? Are over half of your daily net carbs coming from Induction vegetables?

Also, what is the reason why you are continuing Induction instead of moving to OWL?

            Re: Side effects

Leg cramps are usually a symptom of a deficiency in potassium, which is something we don't get alot of on a low carb diet-atleast until the higher rungs. I had TERRIBLE cramps my first time around about a month in, it was almost enough to make me quit.

Being deficient in certain vitamins and minerals can also account for fatigue. I would suggest a good quality multivitamin.
3 years ago, I lost 60 pounds in 12 weeks on Atkins.
I have PCOS, which makes my weight REALLY sensitive to carb intake, and I've gained back most of it since going off plan.

              Re: Side effects

Haas avocados are one source of potassium which are 'legal' on induction - according to fitday the 1/2 which we are allowed per day has about 16% of daily needs and has only 2 net carbs!

Celery, spinach and tomatoes also have a fair bit of potassium in them

Many people add a potassium supplement to the other vitamins etc they are taking if their fitday account shows they are not getting much of it in their foods. I don't know what the recommended daily amount is, but a google search should help you find out.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                Re: Side effects

tired and leg cramps can be potassium issues but they can also be other health issues like hypothyroidism. check your fitday and see what vits and minerals you are deficient in from your food choices and supplements. if none then if you are eating enough go see your doc for some blood work.

You could try moving to OWL rung 1 and adding 5 more net grams of those yummy induction veggies and see if that improves your tiredness and leg cramps.

Hi, have just read this and this is my first post - very much a newbie!
I used to have heavy cramp like legs. I took a vitamin tablet and within a couple of days it went. Not sure if its right on Atkins but it really helped me.

Everyone on Atkins should be taking an iron free multi vitamin daily. It's essential.

Are you taking a daily multivitamin?

When I have leg cramps at night, I take a magnesium pill in the morning and that takes care of it... stretching out your calves when you wake up can help too...

Sounds like your body is needing more minerals than what you are giving it...

Don't laugh now, but put a soap bar under the sheets in your bed where your legs are. The cramps will go away - at least the ones at night.

I've been doing this for years and IT WORKS! It's an old household remedy here in Switzerland.

                          I get leg cramps--they say it's not enough potassium--try taking a supplement.--no potatoes or bananas that's potassium.

just walk them off those cramps

An avocado has more potassium than a potato or banana.

Lots of Induction foods are good for potassium.

Also ... be very careful with taking a supplement ... they are often contraindicated for many prescription medicines.

And ... as a supplement is only 90 mg., you're better off with the avocado.

A medium banana has 422 mg of potassium and a medium red potato has 969 mg of potassium.

1/2 a fillet of raw salmon (about 200 g) has 719 mg of potassium.

One fillet of cod (approx. 230 g) contains 954 mg of potassium.

Among vegetables... a cup of celery root (raw) has 468 mg of potassium.

A cup of raw kohlrabi has 472 mg of potassium.
