  • question about carbs

Ok this has been inspired by a lot of other posts so here goes....

i always thought that you could have unlimited amounts of the food that the book says u can have unlimited amounts of (certain meats, fish, etc) and then for the rest of the day you have to total your 20 grams of carbs by eating the other thing as reccomended (the veggis the cheese ect) but i read in a lot of other post that you should be counting the unlimited foods towards the 20 grams a day.....so what is the carb count on eggs and turkey and tuna????? b/c i have been concentrating on making sure my veggis were in check i didn't realize that i was probably having too many carbs b/c of the foods in the unlimited section :yikes :yikes :yikes

this may help here is what I had yesterday
    Breakfast- 1 scrambled egg
1 cup of coffee (decaf) and one serving of cream

Lunch- 1-small salad (1 cup) with dried tuna and oil and vinager (the label said 0 carbs)
1-diet coke (ya ya i know they stall some people but i am just looking for a carb count here)

dinner- 2 piece of grilled chicken with 2 slices of melted cheese
1 cup of broccoli with butter and salt
3 pieces of deli-stlye turkey breast with a 2 slices of chedder cheese
    2 glasses of water
nightsnack 2 cups of tea with a total of 2 splenda packets and 2 cream servings

so did i over do it? i thought it was pretty ok (the diet coke is debatable i know)

There is no "unlimited" food. You eat only that amount that satisfies your hunger. If 1 egg satisfies your hunger, then 1 egg is all you eat. Oh yeah, and "satisfies" means that you are no longer hungry, not that you are stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey.

You count the carbs to everything you eat and drink.

2 large eggs, scrambled counts as 1.2 net carbs (0.6 net carbs per egg).
If you are eating bacon or ham or any other processed food (including some deli meats), you count the carbs in it. Look at the serving size for these items. I've seen bacon vary in serving size from 3 slices to 1 slice and hams vary in serving size from 1 ounce to 3 ounces. Likewise, these foods vary in their carb count. I've seen hams with carb counts anywhere from 1 to 6 net carbs per serving.

Beverages have carbs too. I cup of canned chicken broth has 1 net carb. 8 ounces of decaf coffee has 0.8 to 1 net carb depending on your carb counter info. Ditto for tea and cream.

The easiest way to find the carb counts is to look up the nutritional info.

This sticky post in the 14 day Forum has a list of on-line sites where you can look up the nutritional info

And another thing, you are allowed a total of 3 servings of foods/beverages that are sweetened with artificial sweeteners (Splenda, aspartame, Ace-K, stevia, sugar alcohols). And each packet of Splenda counts as 1 net carb (see the fine print on the Splenda packets.)

Yah that was also the first thing I thought, you deffinately need to drink more water and also a bit more veggies, like the day that you show here would have needed another cup of salad.

It's a total of three cups of acceptable veggies daily. That could be three cups of salad veggies, or two cups of salad veggies and one cup of the 'other acceptable veggies'. Just remember, never more than one cup of the 'other' veggies.
