  • Blue cheese dressing "zero carb"

I got some "zero carb" blue cheese dressing today... wondered if that was ok to eat during induction? And, if so - how many carbs should I count it for? I've learned from the wisdom of the people on this board that there's no such thing as zero-carb cheese - no matter what the packaging might say... and I certainly don't want to self-sabotage!
    TIA!

Here is what I use to find the actual carb count for "zero" carb foods....Hidden Carb Calculator for Mislabeled Low Carb Foods.

I checked the blue cheese dressing we have here and it says 2 carbs per servings....so that would probably be a good count if you don't want to take the time to check the calculator.

I'd err on the side of caution and count each serving as 0.5 net carbs.

Actually it isn't, because fat and protein are approximated on the label.

The hidden carbs calculator works for "carbier" things... not for things that have only a few carbs per serving.

Here is the nutrition label from the blue cheese dressing we have - this is what I went by when I posted before - if the calculator doesn't work for this item it may come in handy later on:

I see. That has 2 net carbs on the label already.

The OP's dressing has zero carbs listed on the label, so the carbs are at most 0.5 grams per serving.

OMG - I just used that calculator and it gave me a result of 3g of carbs per serving!! Can it be??? Can the company that lists zero carbs really have 3??? Horrors!

It's not 3 carbs. As I wrote above, fat and protein are rounded on the label. The calculator doesn't work to figure out a 2 carbs difference.

What are the numbers on the label?

Re: Blue cheese dressing "zero carb"

                      Here's an example.

Marie's Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing. The label says:

                      Serving size: 2 Tbsp

                      160 calories
                      17 g fat
                      0 g carbohydrate
                      0 g dietary fiber
                      0 g sugar
                      1 g protein

If you enter these numbers in the calculator, you'll get 3 grams of carbohydrate.

But the numbers are rounded, so a serving could actually have 17.4 grams of fat, for example. If you enter the following numbers in the calculator

                      160 calories
                      0 g carbohydrate
                      1 g protein
                      17.4 g fat

it will tell you there are no unlisted carbs.

                      See what I mean?

American lables: 0g = between .01-.49 I count it as .5g to be safe; less than 1g = between .50 -.99 I count it as 1g to be safe. the fiber can also be rounded up so 1g total carbs - 1g fiber may not = 0g net carbs I count it as .5g to be safe.
