  • 40 pounds lost since jan 9th!!!!!!

Started Jan 9th and lost 40 pounds so far. Feeling very anxious but I know I still have a long way to go. I dont see any results yet but I feel it, I also see that my underwear are sagging.....sorry (tmi) but I know some of you have experienced the same thing. I want to try to stay on this a year but I dont see me staying on it without a cheat day here and there. Have anyone on here took a day off and enjoyed some of the foods you used to eat and then got back on and continued your weight loss journey? (I need someone to be honest and keep it real).

    Great work, PP!

Staying on induction for longer than the first 2 weeks is fine for someone like you with a lot to lose, but do keep looking at Dr Atkins 4 questions in chapter 13 of DANDR
    1. Are you bored with Induction?
    2. How much weight do you have to lose?
    3. How metabolically resistant are you to weight loss?
    4. Are you willing to slow down the pace of weight loss in exchange for more food choices?
As for the question about whether it is sensible to allow yourself a 'cheat day' o and again, you will get many different responses. Some people find they are all right and can get straight back on their chosen way of eating after eating a whole day off-plan, but I suspect more will have had problems getting back on plan.

In my opinion you would do better to move up the OWL carbohydrate ladder so some of the foods you might think of cheating with would be 'legal' and not risk your falling off the plan should you decide to indulge.

Did you estimate your metabolic resistance to weightloss from your first 2 weeks loss and the chart in DANDR? If it was low then you might find that your CCLL is fairly high by climbing the OWL rungs, and so would allow you some of your favourite foods without sabotaging your weightloss journey.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Do you have the book? Dr. A actually adresses this issue in there, I remember seeing it yesterday but can't remember the page. Anyways the basics I understood was he realized most would deviate from plan occassionally and that was the major thing, it had a be a rare occassion. If I remember correctly it was suppose to be like you go off and have your favorite food you've been missing then you go right back on. No day long cheats, no long drawn out binge cheats. You eat it, your cheat is done.

I'm sure there was more to it but that's just what I recall. The biggest problem is if you aren't in control completely it can lead to another cheat, then another and next thing you know you are bingeing or off plan. Kind of a dangerous area if you aren't well into your plan and know you can resist it after that.

woo hoo congrats on your great start.
Be sure you get a belt so when you pants start to sag you don't lose them in public as I did.

If you need more foods that would be a reason to move to OWL. I did my extended induction cheat free and almost 2 yrs of Atkins cheatfree so you could do it if you want to. When I wanted food not allowed on induction I moved to OWl and kept on losing.

if you are a carboholic it is not easy to restart livng a low carb Atkins life again so don't blow it with a high carb binge if you are. It took me almost a mointh to get back to just a full week of induction eating after my cheat in 2004.

Congrats on your weight loss! 40 pounds, that's great! As far as your question about cheating, or how we are going to stick with this WOE for life, I think that passes through 90% of our minds here when we first start. I treat it like an addiction...because it is one! To sugar and carbs I mean. One day at a time. Maybe you will choose to have a cheat in the future, but today you will stay focused on your eating plan and soon seeing the scale drop even more...

I cheated in 2004, at 213 pounds. Look where I am now!!
            Start Date: 02/16/10

Re: 40 pounds lost since jan 9th!!!!!!

My neighbor has been on Atkins for two years and she cheats about once every two months - only she does it ONLY at dinner time and only with very carefully controlled portions. She has a dinner she has been wanting, then a small dessert she has been wanting, and then she is right back on the next morning.

She told me that cheating earlier in the day sent her on a carb binge for the whole day instead of just that one thing just once time - so she never, ever does it early in the day because it would take her two days to climb back on. She will do her cheat with a late supper so that she sleeps off the carb binge (or that is how she thinks of it.)

Mind you, she is at her desired weight - she has done the work already and has adapted Atkins for her lifestyle - this is a very special treat, not a once a week "free day" that so many can fall victim to.

She only gains a couple of pounds and it's in water weight so that comes right back off with a super bunch of water for two days and she can get back into ketosis within a day or two, although now that is the only time she bothers with the sticks. She will do a two day induction and then spend two days building back up to maintanence carbs and then she is fine. She never seems to regret it and she never seems to have a hard time sticking back in Induction, or so she has told me and I tend to believe her.

I figure ONLY once I've done the work and reached my goal, if I want to I'll try this once. If I get right back on the next morning and never look back, then I will know that it's possible if it's something I really want to do. The day it's too hard to get on the next morning without a problem and with no regrets will be the last time I ever try it.

Congrats on the loss so far.I have cheated a few times during my time on the diet but you'd rather not because I binged ate and kept getting hungary eating far more foods than I used to when I was not on plan.I used to put on lbs but this time I have gained a stone and Im back on induction and really hope I stay on track.
