  • Squat Lobster...

Has anyone tried Squat Lobster yet?
I found a bag of the gems at WalMart in the Frozen Seafood Section.
They look like little fish nuggets but are actually lobster.

They have 0 carbs and are very tasty.
I grilled them from frozen in my George Forman grill for 4 minutes and then tossed in a skillet with butter, garlic and some thawed pre-cooked shrimp. I heated the blend for a few minutes and added a squeez of fresh lemon. Garnish with a sprinkle of parsley and YUMMY! :yes

There are some carbs in lobster so make sure you count them! I love stir-frying lobster meat with veggies! Living in Maine, we make get too much cold weather and snow, but we do have an abundance of lobster!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

I did the same thing. I was in Walmart and saw the bag for like $10.00 and got so excited I can't tell you. Lobster is my all time favorite. I didn't notice it was "Squat Lobster" till I got home. The price should have tipped me off but I was too excited to notice. I did cook it up but I have to be honest and I hated it!!! I actually threw out both bags I got. Probably because I was all geared up for the flavor of actual lobster.

I followed the directions and it said to boil them to defrost them and then I fried them in a pan with butter. I didn't do anything fancy with them by my own admission because I figured "hey I just dunk my lobster in butter and am in heaven". My fiance suggested they may be more meant for a topping in a salad or something because of some of the recipies on the site. I just fried it up and took a big bite and YUCK. I think cooked better or added to a recipie is what they are meant for.

What is a Squat Lobster? They are among the smallest lobster in the world. Obtained primarily from the Pacific coastal waters off El Salvador, Their numbers are bountiful, allowing for the product to be marketed year round. Very versatile, this rich sweet morsel of pure lobster tail meat can be prepared in a wide variety of ways - sautéed, fried, boiled or poached.

I grilled mine in the Forman grill and then sauted in butter, garlic, and shrimp.
It is not like eating a fresh lobster tail but my husband and I did enjoy them. They were tender and I thought had a nice meaty, non fishy flavor. I think they would be wonderful in a stir fry or salad. I had my husband dig the bag out of the trash and the ingredients are Squat Lobster tails and Sodium phosphate. There are 0 carbs, 2g fat, 150mg sodium and 100 calories per 3oz serving which they say is about 5 chunks. I think my bag was $8.95 at WalMart. I will be getting again.

It's pure lobster meat. I've had them, and I'm not in a hurry to go try again :raving I found them to have a fishy-sweet taste, no matter what I did.

It is lobster meat but not the lobster we all know and love so well. It is a different breed. I agree da Walnut as I already stated I did not like them at all. Along with the strange taste I found them ummmmmmmm gritty for lack of a better word. I am a real texture freak with my food so that alone may be why I didn't like them. They are pretty cheap at Walmart so people should try them and see for themselves if they like them or not. If you like them (like I thought I was going to) it would come in very handy.

Well I've never heard anybody say they were a texture freak, but that is my problem too, I can't eat certain food because of the texture, glad to know I'm not alone.

We call Walmart Wallyworld, don't like em.

hahah It IS good to know I am not alone. I used the word freak because that is how I get looked at when I list off the types of things I can't/won't eat because of the texture. Soggy bread is HUGE. I used to eat a sandwich and sub dry and would NEVER put one away for later. I would throw it away before I would eat it later after the moisture from the meat and cheese could soak in. I do love Fruit BUT, unlike most people can't have it in any other kind of food. Not is cereral, no jelly donuts, no ceral bars, fig bars, pies etc..... I could go on and on but I will spare you.

The Walmart comment cracked me up nurselady. I say it the whole time I am in there "I hate this friggin store". I myself feel like a need a valium before I shop at my Walmart anyway. I have wondered if it depends on where you live (type of people) or if they are all the same. Mine ALWAYS has lines that go on forever because they never ever have enough registers open. Kids running wild throughout the store, screaming, knocking things over. Basically the whole place is a madhouse.
