  • How it's going and observations

I've been on this diet since (I think, I honestly don't remember) the end of January. I'm very happy with this diet - most of the time I'm completely content.

I'm losing very slowly - about a pound a week is the least, sometimes maybe two if I am really active that week. That is ok with me - it's actually my goal. It's slow for most people who are eager to get this done, but for me, I've learned that to lose it quick is to put it all back on again. I'm willing to wait for my goal to be reached.

There were maybe, so far, four days when I didn't stay on the diet - for those four days, it was because I had some sort of bug which had me very sick to my stomach. I have yet to find something that is allowable on this diet that can be tolerated when constantly feeling sick to my stomach. I have a lot of allergies and when I'm peaking with a problem, being sick to my stomach is one of the symptoms. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. To date, soda crackers have been the ONLY thing I can tolerate - I tried the little baked crackers made in the microwave with Delux Deli American cheese but they are pure protein and I simply can't tolerate that, nor any fat. I tried mushrooms and that was a no -go. So, there have been four days that I ended up on soda crackers. Again, I would greatly appreciate any ideas for this.

The good news out of that is that I had NO PROBLEM hopping right back on the diet. Because I only had the soda crackers, I actually missed my very rounded (in my eyes) veggies and I pretty much live on either hamburgers or baked chicken right now because that is what I want. I missed my daily routine of meals. I was very happy to discover this - I consider it an excellent sign for my long term determination to pretty much live the Atkins plan for life.

I have also discovered that I make sure I make allowances for herb carbs and I use plenty of herbs in my diet, I find it very important. I make my revolution bread with the mayo only and I really go to town with the herbs - this morning I added a bit of cayenne pepper (carefully!) into the mix and I liked it - another slight flavor. I use LOTS (double) of dried dill, dill in my 'bread' is incredibly important to me.

I must have my little dessert bowl of sugar free jello every night, right before I go to bed. It's simply now how I roll, he has his little bowl of ice cream and I have my jello. I'm completely happy, I never miss the ice cream now - ever.

I have my cheese crackers (made in the microwave) every day too - I allow myself two slices worth - it's my cheese allowance I let myself have and it all goes into my "crackers" - the jello and the crackers are my "junk food' and it keeps me feeling like I am satisfied with my new way of living without a deprived or "diet" feel.

Because of these little allowances, I simply don't have a problem with the diet but probably that is also why I only lose a pound a week.

I feel blessed that I can eat this way and still lose. To quote somebody really famous, "It's a good thing."

If anyone has ideas for allowed foods when I'm having an allergy attack and feeling sick to my stomach, I'd be forever grateful I'm open to try anything.

I would like to add that without the revolution rolls, I'm not sure I actually could make this diet work for me. For those new to this game, do try them if bread was an important part of your daily eating.

I don't use the cream cheese version - I stick to mayo because I really don't notice a difference that matters to me in any way and I save my cheese allowance for "other stuff" like my crackers. I have two rolls a day on average - for hamburger buns of which I eat probably four nights a week and for tuna salad or on nights I'm having a pork chop that day I'll only have one with a little melted butter on top. They are great for breakfast too, if you want "bread and butter" with your eggs.

Also, try stuff you previously didn't like. I've found that cauliflower - raw with a dip - is wonderful. I never liked chicken salad but recently discovered that now I love it. With just a little mayo, a big squirt of spicy brown mustard, a little salt and maybe a couple of tablespoons of finely diced celery as an open faced sandwich on the revolution roll? Well, it's wonderful!

I keep either tuna salad or now chicken salad - just a little - in the fridge at all times. It's my "fast food" and if I have not been able to eat something for "too long", I've learned that it's very important to have something I can quickly get on a plate and eat with some raw veggies on the side. Going without eating too long is my greatest danger in this diet - it's when I begin to get disgruntled and my forbidden "wants" begin to play.

My "fast food" heads all that off at the pass.

This is what worked for me, I'd love it if you post stuff that works for you!
