I'd say it does. People drink it as an alternative to water all the time in Europe. Its just air. I'd say ones lower in sodium are better....

Pure water means either filtered tap water or mineral or spring water.

Here's a link to the FAQ about it.

I called Atkins about a year and a half ago and asked because I like Mendota Springs sparkling water. I was told as long as there was nothing added it's fine.

Sparkling water without flavoring or sweeteners is certainly fine. Flavored water IMHO needs to be limited for the sweetener component of the drink but could still count in the daily water total. This may be contrarian to the FAQ, but the ingredients of the flavored water I drink is asorbic acid, sweetener, natural flavoring (of course some preservative too). I doubt that the additions invalidate the liquid replenishment by adding sugar, sodium, or electrolytes like soda can. Just my thoughts...

I drank the flavored seltzer water all the way from induction to maintenance with no problem. Nothing in it but carbonated water and natural flavors.

Sure, they may be fine but I still think they should not count towards your water intake as IrishRed asked. That's just my opinion.
