for me i seem to lose fine as long as i keep my daily carb count under 20g a day, regardless of what the source of carbs is. personally my health and digestive comfort is more important then rungs on a ladder. i can't imagine how anyone who follows induction to letter can get the daily recomended amount of fiber in their diet unless they are taking heaps of psylum which in my case only makes matters worse.

after all dr. atkins died over two years ago, in that time the low carb products have evolved dramtically. at the time of his death i doubt that a products containing ingrediants from higher rungs of OWL that are very low in net carb were widely available like they are today. for me personally i'd rather be eating a more varied diet and still keep my carb count low and continue losing weight, rather then adhere to a set of rules that become more and more dated as the sophistication of low carb products progresses.

joe if it's working for you that's great but this is an induction forum and those foods are not on the list as presented by Dr. Atkins...for a majority of us things like low carb yogurt and other products slow loss and create cravings. We don't encourage the use of them until OWL because we inevitably will get the "you told me I could use these products and I'm not losing" thread. If people want to stay under 20 grams eating items not on the list then we encourage them to visit the Low Carb Forum.

How you mean 'unless', in fact Dr. Atkins recomends using psylium husks and of course they make matters worse if you all of a sudden start taking 'heaps' of them and don't drink enough with it.
In fact you don't need heaps, you only need something like a heaped teaspoon in the morning and the same in the evening.
And that's exactly to the letter..

psyllium husks and flax meal - too much fibre?

Thanks everyone for the flax meal tips.

Of course, the problem was the Atkins bar (which I shouldn;t have been eating anyway) As soon as I stopped those all the hideous digestive issues stopped. How nice it is to be bloat- free.

I actually don't have a problem with the psyllium husks (other than they are vile to consume but I am used to that now). Of course now that I am on to the flax meal I will be taking both.

Is it possible to get too much fibre? I have a tendency to binge on a good thing when I find it (thats how I gained all this weight back!) and I don't want to OD on the fibre.

I went back and re-read the Induction part of the book and the list of food that you can eat is very limited- but I recall when I followed it to the letter last time I was on Atkins the weight flew off...
