  • Low Carb Ice Cream and Chocolate = 800lb gorilla

    Well,

I was doing really good. I lost 40lbs in about 10 weeks.

On Valentines day, I had a 0g carb choc bar - it was just ok.

Then we went to EZs and I had their low carb milkshake. Big mistake.

Its only 8g but that was the crack in the dam. My family went to CA (we live in Austin) for 3 weeks.

While they were gone, I got too friendly with all the low carb ice cream treats at my local grocers freezer. Well, those little things are like Jezzebelles vixens - all sweet nothings, this wont matter, nobody will know, just one time at first and then they got you on the hook.

Well that was bad enough - then I accidentally bought a gallon of REGULAR Arizona Green tea for work - drank 3/4th of that before I found it was the sugar kind

Anyway - then my wife discovered that she loved the LC icecream treats.

I can resist "regular" carbs easily - but something about it being low carb gives my brain permission to abuse it like frozen crack cocaine.

I can resist almost anything, but if there is LC choc or icecream in the house, I am toast.

So I gained about 3 lbs and have not really moved the scale in about 3 weeks - time to get back to the basics and get focused.

Also - I was exercising, but not enough - just walking when I could - now I have to buckle down and get more serious.

I went from 343lbs in January to 305lbs now - I am trying to break to 299 by the time my parents come here on mothers day.

This is exactly why I have to avoid ice cream all together. Ice cream was always my worst addiction...

So for now, dust yourself off, either toss or give away all the ice cream crap and move on from here. If your in OWLS you might want to do induction for a week to get your metabolism going again, and then keep on keepin on!

    You can do this!!

Ever since I was old enough to crawl out of bed and climb up on the kitchen cupboard to get the Fluff and eat it by the spoonful, sweets have been my downfall. Over the years, I've lost and gained, and can always point to sweets triggering a binge from which I could barely recover. I keep reminding myself that "sweet flavored treats", legal or otherwise will still lead me to disasterous results. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

As Irishirish said I think your
        crack in the dam
was the '0 carb bar' which opened wider to let the lowcarb milkshake in!!

Well now you know what the bars with the magical noncounting/counting sugar alcohols do to your willpower you need to rid the house of all of the selfstyled 'low carb' products and get back on track with whole unprocessed foods from the acceptable foods list.

So plan your foods and snacks so you can feed your sugar monster with highfat snacks instead of imitation sugar ones. Now you have fed him with sweets you will have to work your Atkins ruthlessly to force him back into his box again :yikes

On Mothers Day make sure you have plenty of delicious naturally lowcarb options for you to eat when everyone else is indulging in their treats and remember what setbacks this slip has caused you if you feel you are starting to weaken. :hug .
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I don't keep any of this stuff in the house because I can't eat a serving...I'll end up eating the whole carton...I did make clouds which are cream cheese, cocoa and splenda...nowhere near as good but I find I can have one of two pieces and I am satisfied.

Just reminding everyone here in the Extended Induction forum. Non-homemade ice cream, low carb or not, isn't allowed during your Induction because your heavy cream amounts are limited to 3 fluid ounces maximum (or 1/3 cup) as a "special category food". Moreover many low carb ice creams contain milk and as you all know the only dairy products you are allowed during Induction is cream, butter, and cheese.

Doing the extended Induction means you are still playing by the Induction Rules and still eating off the Induction Foods List. Move onto OWL if you want to start eating OWL foods at OWL amounts.
