    Hi guys,

    Well I was on induction from the 6th January 2010 till last night at 9.30pm when I broke my diet. I have lost 52 pound and I am thrilled.

    So I have decided to eat whatever I wish for 24 hours and then go straight back on extended induction ( I can hear the atkins veterans saying right now "what are you doing you crazy man" lol ) But there is a method to my madness.

    Im hoping to kickstart my bodys metabolism and get past a slight plateua that I have been experiencing.

    Thoughts, comments and advice are welcome

    I hope you truly mean " Thoughts, comments and advice welcome"

    Rather than doing what you're planning, you should move to OWL. It appears that Induction has done all it is going to do for you and you should now begin the phase of Atkins where you lose your weight ... OWL.

        So how would I find my CCLL would it be by gradually adding food back in?

          It's really really hard to "take a break" and have to go back through the "detoxing". I did the exact thing you are planning and that was two years ago!!!!!! and 40lbs ago. Good luck.

            Yes, following the OWL carb ladder.

            Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

              I have found it really difficult to get the time to read it due to work/life balance , my job and new baby at home makes it difficult.

              One of the reasons I came off the diet was I noticed I was very irritable and exhausted, depressed etc, now i am taking all the right supplements and I just wanted to establish was it induction that was caausing this.

              to be honest I dont know how I have stuck the three months of exhaustion and irritability, I suppose it has just been motivation to get weight off.

              I cant help but think I am doing something wrong cause I know I should be feeling energetic, my doc has done full bloodwork etc and everything is fine. I had one of our great atkins enemies tell me it was called "atkins attitude" and I will be exhausted and grumpy because atkins isnt good for you, of course i dont belive that

              But in terms of fat loss I have never looked better in clothes

              I originally got into low carb through what I believe to be the amazing work of Gary Taubes , I think his research has brought up a lot of hidden truth.

              One thing I will say is this; getting out of bed this morning was harder and my head feels clouded from the extra sugar its amazing how carbs can make you feel drugged! I plan to go back to the plan tommorow, I swore to myself it would only be for 24 hours.

                If you took a break with a meal etc last night and are feeling sluggish already this am, I would restart your induction now and not wait until tomorrow.

                I can tell you from experience that carbs and sugar do a number on your body system but also on your mind! I get cranky, very fatigued and really into a mindset of not wanting to do anything. It really has become a self-limiting device for me as far as carbs and sugar go.

                If you have the book, just go to the chapter with CCL, eat some items that are healthy and that you could add back in. I'm sure you are making good choices.

                  Thanks thats very good advice, your spot on about the moods aspect of it all, its quite funny my wife sat in shock when i was eating a high carb meal, she used to say atkins was rubbish then she seen me put clothes on i hadnt wore in years

                    I have to agree with the others move to OWL

                    I was 670 days cheat free loving atkins almost a goalie and I jumped off the wagon and it took me almost a month to string cheatfree days of atkins together. I learned my lesson the hard way.

                    Since I doubt your doc ran a metabolic chances are excellent you are defient in one or more vit or minerals which is making you tired and sluggish. adding more of those yummy induction veggiee especially the green leafy ones can fix just about any vit or mineral deficiency.

                    if you are tracking on fitday.com check your reports and see what you are defieinct in so you can keep up with it with supplements if you decide not to move to OWl

                      I am starting to think the same, that I am deficient in one of the vitamins or minerals, when I was in seattle two weeks ago I was shocked at how easy it was to get a big selection of different vitamins and minerals, in Ireland we have some good shops but in America even the supermarkets were stocking potassium supplements lol

                      I have a private health plan through work so I may try and see is there any where I can get a metabolic done, do you know the exact name of the test I could get done, I suppose I could do a google

                        So have you read the book or not? If you haven't read the book, how do you know how to "do" Atkins?

                        What exactly are you eating? It's quite possible that you haven't really been "doing Induction". It's possible that you've not been eating enough food, drinking enough water. That happens a lot with people who "do Atkins" without reading the book.

                        That's why it would be helpful if you tell us exactly what you're eating/drinking.

                            I would say don't cheat, just because I know that when *I* cheat, i make an excuse to go off plan and then I end up gaining all my weight back and feeling terrible. However, it really depends on you. How do you react? Are you able to go off for one day and return the next day without an issue? Will it be worth it? How much weight will you gain in that one day? Will it become an every two months, then every month, then every week pattern? It really depends.

                            Before doing Atkins, and even once after (I know, I know) I am able to drink clear alcohol, with just water, and not have any issues. I never get the munchies and I never lose control. I have also smoked socially for 10 years and have never ever gotten addicted to cigarettes. I am telling you this, because for most people these would be problematic behaviors, but I know myself and i know they are not.

                            However, if I were to have a couple of bites of a chocolate chip cookie I would be face down in carbs for a couple of days, no question about it.

                            So the answer is no answer. Know thyself.

                              OP how did you do? Are you back on track now?
