  • Brown Sugar Splenda ???

I know we can have up to 3 Splenda's a day while on induction but what about the brown sugar kind? I bought a squash (yuck) and thought I'd give it a try. My mom usually makes it with lots of butter & brown sugar, thought I would give it a try.

Mind you... before Atkins I wouldn't touch broccoli and here I am eating it raw for lunch! lol

Brown sugar Splenda actually contains brown sugar, so I'd pass. How about a hazelnut flavored sugar free syrup instead, like Davincis or Torani?

I was thinking it was 1/2 real brown sugar. Thanks.

I'm having a really hard time finding DaVinchi's or Torani syrups! One store has them but not the sugarfree kind. Another store has only Chocolate & Raspberry in sugarfree and two other stores don't have them at all. I'm going to need to go on a manhunt for some!

Aside from shopping online at a site like netrition.com, I usually find the sugar free syrups in (independent) coffee shops although as might be expected, the prices are usually significantly higher.

I learned the hard way years ago about the Brown Sugar Splenda...wasted my money thinking it was a Splenda version of Sugar Twin Brown (which is allowed).

On the squash, is it a zucchini or summer squash? Those are allowed but winter squashes like butternut or acorn aren't until later in OWL.

I've seen the SF syrups in all types of stores. For national chains, WalMart often carries them. Your local grocery might carry the Splenda Flavors for Coffee. Comes in little individual tube packs in caramel (my fav), french vanilla, mocha and hazelnut. It's in powder form like regular Splenda and should be where the coffee is.

You can order davincis online. THey usually have some really good specials and they are bigger bottles than you get in the stores.

Hmmm.... not sure what kind of squash I bought!?! I've never bought one before. I know it's not an acorn one... it's the typical squash shape, with an orange inside. I bought one cut in half, wrapped in saran wrap. It just says squash on the label. Like I said, I totally went out on a limb by purchasing it.

I'm going to look up Davinchi's now. Thanks, not sure why I haven't thought of that before.

                Sounds like acorn squahs
                acorn squash - Google Search

those are not allowed on induction. They are a rung 8 addition. The only sqash allowed on induction is spaghetti squash (highly recommended) and summer squash like zucchini.

Sounds like it could be butternut squash. Regardless, the orange pulp is a sure indicator that it is a winter squash which is an OWL Rung 8 food.

Squashes you can eat until then are the ones Liv mentioned. Zucchini (courgette) is green and looks similar to a cucumber. Summer squash is yellow and may be cuke shaped or have a crook neck. Spaghetti squash is fairly large, oval shaped and yellow. You won't need brown sugar flavoring for any of these. HTH

Also, here is a thread with links to the Cook's Thesaurus and Cooking Dictionary which are very helpful for anyone in the kitchen.

Ahhh butternut. That is probably it.
Pumpkin is another squash like vegetable that is allowed. It is very good to eat. Lost of those beta carotenes in it

I have bought the cherry and vanilla Davinnci's online before. It was a long time ago so I can't remember the site or the price for sure. I'm thinking maybe it was around 8 dollars a bottle, but they were huge. It was good stuff.

Oooo Liv, I forgot to mention pumpkin. Thanks for mentioning it!

Jebjow, you can use pumpkin like you would winter squash in all phases! There are a TON of both savory and sweet pumpkin recipes here on ADBB too.

I love netrition. I spent so much on my last order I received a tshirt. The shipping is INCREDIBLE. $4.95 regardless the size of the order, and my last order weighed over 21 pounds!

I bet it is a butternut. I'm kind of glad it's not allowed until rung 8, in all honestly, I really wasn't looking forward to eating it !
