    Re: Really.. all this fat...

The idea, in a nutshell (and I will add the disclaimer that I'm not a scientist), is that a gram of fat has nearly 3 times the amount of energy (calories) than does a gram of carbohydrate or protein. The difficulty is that fat is much more difficult (read that as more calories are consumed in the manufacture of energy from fat) than is glucose (sugar). So when we move from a primarily carbohydrate burning metabolism to a predominately fat burning metabolism, the fat that we consume is not necessarily enough to fuel our existence, so, in the absence of a large amount of carbohydrate stores, the body begins to burn the fat which is stored up.

Really, that's the purpose of fat. The funny thing, honestly, about the body is that all calories consumed in excess of metabolic need (be they fats, proteins, or carbohydrates) will ulitmately be stored as fat. We have become fat-phobic, but the reality is that we errored in moving too far the other direction. Fat is not the enemy, excess is...as in excess calories, excess refined sugar, excess...well, fill in the blank.

So to answer the question, no the fat you eat is being consumed by the body, along with fat which is in your body. Your body's consumption of calories goes up because it burns more in order to create energy from fat, and since it has no sugar to draw from, it uses stored fat.

Someone correct me if my science is wrong, but that's my understanding anyhow.

yeah that makes sense, and i did some more research, i guess the dietary fat we comsume cannot be stored unless insulin is present. So storage of said fat is difficult without carbs. Win win.

      Thanks for the info

        Win win is right
We are not what we eat... we are what the body chose to store of what we eat. So cutting down carbs is great.

        Great question
