  • Day 5 of the Fat Fast

I realized I was losing about 4 pounds a month on Atkins, despite following it with great care and exercising a hour or two a day; so I decided to try the fat fast. It's not so bad, that's the good news. You have this kind of weird sated feeling because you're eating so much fat. You don't get hungry really, or crave anything. Although, I suspect a time will come where I'll really want to eat something that crunches - not a lot of that on this diet. LOL And I had the beginning of a migraine yesterday so I had a cup of coffee to ward it off - I have no idea if that's allowed. But whether it is or not, no diet is worth a migraine.

I started on Monday and I've lost 5 pounds. Technically, I gained two back overnight but I'm thinking that must be some kind of weird water thing and I'm trying not to think about it.

I don't know how long you can stay on this, or how long I CAN stay on this, but normally I lose weight slowly and this has been gratifying.

How much did you lose during the 14 day Induction? And did you figure out your degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss from that number by using the chart in Chapter 12 or 13? I'm asking because I noticed that you've been a member of ADBB since May of 2004. So I'm wondering if you and your doctor ruled out the other causes for a slow metabolism like thyroid disease, food intolerances, yeast, etc. as Dr. Atkins said to rule them out before attempting the Fat Fast.

Also if you've been losing 4 pounds a month, that's not a bad weight loss rate at all. Most health experts agree that a 1-2 pound loss per week is a healthy weight loss rate because rapid weight loss has been associated with numerous medical problems ranging from gall bladder disease to osteoporosis.

I'd be thrilled to death with losing eight pounds a month.

I'm happy right now. A little dramatic weightloss is something that's deeply appreciated. I have a lot of weight to lose, and four pounds a month translates into two years of non-stop induction with no fudging ever - that's a lot. If I can accelerate this a little bit now and then - great.

GOOD for you! We all know this is tough, and sometimes we do have to steer off the beaten path to get to the end of the road. I think we are all different and whatever it takes to keep us motivated, AND happy/satisfied is a good thing. Stay the course for as long as you feel you can and keep us posted... I truly like to here about the different ways we all go about reaching the same goals...

          hey!
good job on your loss....i am really confused as to what this fat fast is and who should do it...as i understand it if u have been able to lose on induction than fat fast isn't for you (ie it's not a way to just lose a lot of weight fast) so if anyone could give me some info that would be great!! and again good job on ur loss!

Not sure if you have the book or not,, but its in the book I have on page 272-274. Its eating 1000 calories a day with 75-90% being fat. Recommendation of 5 feedings a day with 200 calories at each feeding. some of the feeding choices would include:

2 deviled eggs made with 2 teaspoons mayo
            or
            2 onces cream cheese
            or
1 once tuna or chicken with mayo and one quarter avocado.
The recommendation is to try it for 4-5 days

Thats the jist of it anyway,,,,

I met a woman last week while out on a medical appointment. She was amazed at my weight loss and asked if I had gastric bypass. I told her no, I was on Atkins. Unfortunately, she hadn't read the book and thought the fat fast was Atkins. I told her to read the book since she wasn't very happy with her hair loss after three weeks and gained the weight she lost as soon as she started low-fat, again.

Fat fast is a little used plan from Dr. Atkins to be used only if one is metabolically resistant.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

yep what Jo said and the fat fast has a 4-5 day limit and then you go back to induction level eating againing.

Your body will react to that very low protein by using your muscles and organs for the protein it needs making you have a slower metabolism when you finish then when you started once you exhaust your protein reserves whicha re estimated to be 2-3 days worth.

it just isn't worth wrecking your metabolism and long term weight loss for a very small scale weight loss immediately!

                Happy low carbing.
