  • What is going wrong!!!!

Okay so I have been on induction for 22 days. I am 31 years old and I have been on atkins before and lost 40 pounds the last time (8 years ago). I read the book again and have been following things pretty closely. I take vitamins daily, drink lots of water, and have not cheated what-so-ever. I lost seven pounds the first week (I started at 205), then I went back up to 203 and haven't moved at all! I don't understand what is wrong and am having a difficult time. I know the process can be slow, especially the second time around, but why am I gaining!!!! Here is a sample menu of what I eat daily:

    Breakfast
3 egg omelet with a slice of American cheese
    2 glasses of water
    vitamin supplement
(sometimes I will also have nitrate free bacon)

    Lunch

Salad (lettuce, cuccumber, onion, tomato) home made ranch dressing (made with mayo, cream and ranch seasoning) and Chicken breast
or a burger without the bun with mayo and veggies

    Dinner
    2 ounces cheese
steak/chicken/pork (with seasoning and olive oil)
fresh veggies usually stir fried with olive oil and seasoning

I have one to two diet sodas a day and sometimes an atkins vanilla shake (three total in the three weeks I've done this)

This is what I eat everyday. I switch up my proteins and veggies and sometimes fry wings (no breading) and have them with hot sauce.

Can someone help me figure out what I can do to get things moving a bit?????? I need help!

Exactly how many induction veggies are you eating? From the looks of things I would say you are not eating enough.

Maybe it could be those franken foods like the shakes and thoses diet sodas...it is preferred not to eat those and to drink mostly plain pure water.

How much water are you drinking? Remember a minimum of 64oz is required but drinking half your body weight in water is what is recommended.

Maybe that hot sauce is causing you to retain water...hot sauce does have lots of sodium in it.

Are you making that burger from scratch or are you buying it from somewhere...some restaurants add fillers to their meats.

Your menu looks pretty good overall The diet sodas and shakes could cause you to stall. Are you counting the carbs of the sweeteners in the soda toward your daily net carb total? Are they sweetened with aspartame or Splenda? Aspartame is a common staller. Are you drinking enough water? You don't have quantities for the veggies and protein, so be sure you are eating enough.

It's also common to stall a bit right after Induction. Each time I've done Induction, I stall for 2-3 weeks afterwards. Then the weight loss picks up. I also found I do better losing weight in OWL so I moved up the rungs rather quickly.

Weight will sometimes fluctuate up and down 2-3 lbs depending on what we're eating, how much we're exercising, body changes (especially for women) etc.

Are you measuring? It's very likely you are losing inches and not lbs. An official stall is four weeks without inches or weight loss.

Give it some time. Or maybe get rid of the shakes and diet soda and see if that helps too.

Cheese is also sometimes a staller - and American cheese (processed cheese slices) aren't allowed at all. I agree with previous comments about the shakes & veggies. Also check that you are getting more than 1/2 your daily carbs from veggies.

I think everyone suggested fixes that make a lot of sense. I'd keep an eye on the seasonings and hot sauce labels too. Sometimes there's sugar-in-hiding in there. I used to swear by a spice mix that has dried onion in it. It's a marginal carb addition on its own but during induction, those grams are best spent on nutritious fresh veggies than on veggies-in-hiding!

I don't know if anybody mentioned it yet but those shakes can be big trouble. Too much sweet stuff in them and a staller for many.

              Re: What is going wrong!!!!

Thanks all! I will get rid of the American cheese for sure, I didn't know about that. As far as the shakes, I have had one a week (three total) so that will also be easy to get rid of. I am having two cups of raw veggies and one cup of cooked veggies per day ( I do measure), and the diet soda is diet Rite which is made with Splenda.

I also didn't know you had to measure your proteins! I thought you could eat them liberally, at least that is what is says in the book. Can anyone clarify? I usually eat 8 ounces at a time, give or take a few.

So I think I am going take the advice that it is my body changing and wait two more weeks and see what happens. Thanks again for the encouragement from all.

Hopefully it isn't that yeast thing Dr. Atkins talks about in his book, that is what I am worried it might be!

Oh and the hot sauce is 0 carbs and I don't eat much of it or often. I had it on wings twice.

                  Re: What is going wrong!!!!

You can eat carb-free proteins liberally - as long as you are hungry (that's the trick). You have to count all carbs, no matter what the source (cheese, eggs, shellfish, veggies, etc)

labels are tricky since if it's under .5 they round down. So make sure sugar isn't an ingredient. I have 2 here and neither have sugar in them so yours may be fine too. Wont' hurt to double check though.
