  • Another Veggie Question

I have read the book and the chapter on induction many times.. I know the rules... My problem is I am not getting that 12-15 carbs in veggies a day... my calories are pretty low most days.. Under 1200 or 1500.
I dont use slenda or heavy cream.. I try to keep my fat intake high but I am still struggling... I dont like alot of veggies on the salad list..

I am wondering.. Now that I am on extended induction,, Can I eat the 12-15 carbs off of both list.... Example.. If I eat a salad 2 cups with some tomatoes and celery.. (that would still be low in net carbs..
can I then eat the rest of the veggies off the other list.. As long as I dont go over the 12-15 a day ?????

I am still losing weight however I really feel I am still struggling......

Why not go up to OWL Rung 1? It's just more veggies and would let you eat more from the "other" list.

You really need to get your calories up. Undereating is counterproductive with Atkins.

Thanks for the suggestions.. I weigh in on Thursdays.. So I think I will probably start rung 1 this well.. going to have to re-read those chapters to get the gist of moving thru the rungs..

          Thanks again.

            Re: Another Veggie Question

Once i moved to OWL one I just counted carbs and so the lists became less important. Some people still stick to eating 2 cups from the first list throughout their journey though.
tomatoes can be quite potent stuff so be careful trying to get all your carbs from them. I recommend keep trying out veggies and new ways of preparing them rather than "shortcuts" Your whole eating from now on is really about veggies. They will make most of your carbs in bulk on Atkins and it is good to try and find ways to include them in your diet. Try a new veggie today. Jicama? Pumpkin? Turnip fries? Fried radishes ( a really good recipe on Linda's recipe page)

Pumpkin shortage this year I am afraid. Some people are ordering it from Amazon I have noticed. Rhubarb may be another surprising one to experiment with

I know I need to get those calories up... I am just having a hard time doing it w/out going over my carb count. I dont use any sweetners with the exception of twice since I started.. (I made 2 muffins in a min)
I use mayo, started eating salad dressing (no sugar in ingredients), cook in butter and olive oil.. I am just not sure what else to do... Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

What sort of meats are you eating? I don't know if you can handle this, but perhaps you can eat more meat and the skin on your chicken?

Maybe so, Summerfun, that's what I would do. Or even spread some butter on my steak or something. OH--how about drizzling olive oil on your veggies, or again, butter? Olives in your salad, cheese melted on veggies, or on your salad......so many yummy ways to get fat into your diet. HTH!

                            Summerfun,

Somebody else's calorie intake doesn't matter.

YOU need to eat enough for YOU.

A rule of thumb that some use is 10-12 times your current body weight in calories.

Also, maybe moving to OWL would help things.

I don't mind sharing. I try to shoot for 10-12x my weight, so somewhere between 1590-1908. My average since I started is 1633.
