  • What's different about EXTENDED induction?

I'll be reaching my 15th day on Thursday, and am wanting to prepare myself mentally for the shift into extended induction because I'm not ready for OWL...but what's 'different' about food choices? I've read of [people needing to decide whether to start over or stay in exteneded induction and I don't 'get' the difference?
Can anyone elaborate, please? Don't I have to continue doing ALL the same things I've BEEN for two weeks?

Since I haven't lost any weight or inches during induction (yet) I'm expecting a resistant metabolism (40 to lose). Can't understand why I'm resistant as I've been losing fine on other diets and cleanses...but I've 'stalled' when switching to Atkins. I want to continue this WOL until I'm certain it's NOT right for me if that's the case.

There's no real difference between the first 14 days of Induction and doing the extended Induction. The Rules are the same. The Foods list is the same. The only exception is that you can add 1 ounce of nuts to your menu, but if those nuts cause blood sugar instability symptoms (see Chapter 13 for a list of these symptoms) or no weight loss, you need to drop them from your diet.

Dr. Atkins said that folks who are metabolically resistant to weight loss or who have alot (I'm talking about more than 50 pounds here) might benefit from doing Induction longer because that will give their bodies time to get over their metabolic problems. See, Dr. Atkins and some diet experts believe that being overweight is a sign that your body cannot metabolize nutrients properly and/or efficiently.

But the people who choose to extend their Induction past the minimum 14 days still have to follow the Rules of Induction and eat off the food list (so no strawberries, no carrots, no oatmeal, no cottage cheese, no yogurt, no milk, etc.)

There is a variation of OWL, in which you stay at the Induction carb level of 20 nets but you move up the OWL carbohydrate level following the OWL rules. Anyone interested in doing that should post in the OWL forum so as not to confuse the folks staying in Induction.

Nothing is different about extended induction. Some people choose to add nuts but I would not particularly if you are having a difficult time with weight loss. If you don't mind perhaps posting a few menus would help us to see if you were doing something to stall you.
