  • Not losing as much as I thought I should

I've been on Atkins now for 3 and a half weeks and have lost 5 pounds (for sure) or 8, the other three pounds come and go every few days. Just wondering if losing 5 pounds is an adequate weight loss or if it should be more. I've read that everyone is different but I've also heard people losing 30 pounds in a month. I walk every day on my treadmill and my carb intake is usally 10 carbs per day. Any input would be helpful. At times I feel frustrated and depressed

Hey Babygirl, don't be depressed :hug Look, you've gotta hang in there!!! One day a whole lotta weight will just drop off of you, that has happened to me, girl I lost 13lbs the next day.

The only other thing I can tell you is to read your DANDR. I don't want to go off half cocked and don't know exactly what I'm saying. I'm new to this too. I hope that Moochiecat or 2bigformysize or another Veteran will slide through to help you out further. I just wanted to come by and give you some support, because it can be done on Atkins!!! I hope the very best for you darling and it will pay off, just you wait patiently and see.

well i went and read some more posts and found one that was very motivating. not seeing any progress on scales! by gillybaby. All the responses was just what I also needed to hear. I see that gillybaby is going through the same thing that I am and that we basically started at the same time. should try and find her so that we can motivate each other

yeah haven't seen gilly in a while, hope she hasn't fallen off the wagon. I am struggling right now with scale losses so I am switching soley to the tape for now. I may weigh in every 2 weeks. Who knows. I have to stick with this though because I cannot allow myself to get bigger than I already am. Ican't go through life this way. So I will be here if you need some perking up :yes As well as the rest of our happy big family ha

You just have to be patient. :hug 5-8 lbs is actually normal for 14 days and after that, depending on how much weight you have to lose, it can slow down after that (and should, really) to about 2-3 lbs a week. Remember, Atkins is not a "diet", so to speak, and you should really not lose more than 2-3 lbs a week at most but 1-2 lbs is very normal. My big concern is that you said you daily intakeo f carbs is 10??? Have you read the book at all? :confused Just asking. If that is true, that is probably the reason why you are not losing right; your body thinks it is starving. You need to maintain the 20 carb intake daily. Going lower does not make you lose faster (it will just frustrate you, like you are now) or help your body either. You need to start eating the recommended carb allowance according to Dr. A. Otherwise, you will just keep being frustrated and going haywire on the scale. Don't try to change or go faster, it does not make things better. Do it by the book. :yes Ok? :hug Don't compare yourself to others; it would be unfair to you. I lost 35 lbs my first month of induction and somebody else here lost 45 and for a hot second, I was jealous and then I thought.....WHY?? I should be happy, I am 35 lbs thinner for the first time in 10 years! Everybody's body, metabolism, etc. is different; nobody loses the same amount, the same way, in the same time frame. Be happy! You are thinner than you were 3 weeks ago! :icondance It doesn't seem like much but it really is. Just be patient, exercise, get in ALL your water, eat 20 grams of carbs daily, not 10!

I agree with lowcarbbingforever, you have to eat the 20 carbs. Also, how much water are you drinking? Are you taking the Atkins recommended vitamins? The vitamins & water really made a difference for me, for awhile I was losing a pound every other day. I've slowed down now, but I am measuring myself and staying away from the evil scale! Hang in there, it will start coming off!

Well I don't think I can eat 20 carbs a day. I've never been a big eater. Usually skipped breakfast, had a sandwich for lunch and meat and potatoes for supper.

I am now taking a multi vitamin that's geared towards a low carb diet and the basic 3 once a day (I know I'm supposed to take it 3 times a day) and flaxseed oil. my usual meals go as follow

                2 eggs
                2 slices bacon
                2 decaf
                2 tablespoons heavy cream

                total approx 3

baked meatballs with parmesan cheese (no bread crumbs) 2 grams
                1 cup english cucumber

                total approx 5.5

                steak, chicken or pork
                2 cups salad
                2 tbsp low carb dressing

                total 1 gram

once in awhile I'll have some chedder cheese as a snack 3 oz.

for exercise I walk on my treadmill every day for 45 minutes

I was never a breakfast eater so I'm starting to get used to that. as for water, I was always a big water drinker and I'm drinking 10 big glasses of water a day at a minimum. as far as more carbs go, any suggestions as to what else I should be eating?

I am not as concerned as some about the carbs, but I would add some variety in your vegetable selection. Lettuce salads are fine, but you should through in some additional veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, onions, string beans or tomatoes in as well in one cup increments to jazz up the salad or complement it. The carbs will come in easily with some of those veggies. If you are not a big veggie eater, take a new one on per week. There are many great recipes on here for new ways to cook them.

Be patient, the weight will come off. I would also be measuring for inches off. Some people have lost tens of inches but kept the same body weight due to adding muscle mass.
