  • What is the REAL deal on ODing on veggies

Guys, I wanted cabbage sooooo badly for dinner tonight, so I made cube steaks, hamhocks, and cabbage. I filled up on cabbage and one hamhock. I know I went over my three cups.....I probably had around four! I feel SOOOOO guilty, and I think Im starting to beat myself up over cabbage. Please someone tell me, this isnt as major as Im making it out to be. All in all my net carb intake for today was 13.2 Carbs, and 14 glasses of water.

:help :help :help :help :help :help

You are to have 2 cups salad veggies (uncooked) from the list and one cup cooked veggies from the list.

Beating yourself up over this does no good. Just jump back on the Atkins wagon now and continue forward.

Pigging out on cabbage, in the grand scheme of things, is much better for you than pigging out on rice, pasta or spuds, and considering that the first rung of OWL is more vegetables, I wouldn't lose much sleep over this.

The thing here is that you ate all your veggie allottment at one sitting, and that's not the best thing for your body. By spreading out your veggies through the day your digestion will run smoother, and your blood sugars will stay more level so keep that in mind.

What this might be telling you is that you have some portion control issues.
Whenever I had the impulse to over-do it on a legal food that had limits, I'd consciously aim myself towards more proteins, or drink copious amounts of water to fill me up.

I love cabbage too, and I could also sit down and eat a head of cauliflower...lol...and I have to stop and think about it when I'm filling my plate.

Or if you are a veggie lover, consider moving up to OWL rung 1, where you will be able to eat 5 net carbs worth of veggies in addition to the ones you are currently eating on Induction.

In the beginning of induction i didnt have a problem spacing out my veggies, I do much better with my veggie spreading if I have breakfast early in the morning, 6 or 7 am. And then Id have some at lunch, but then nothing would be left for dinner. Can anyone help me with spreading it out through out the day??

          Thanks:

you need to sit down and figure this out for yourself as onky you know what your taste buds like and what your buget can afford just allot 5 carbs for each meal if you do 3 and snacks and then get your servings measured out and put the food away. I'm a veggie lover and did 3 sets of rung one to get all the veggies in my Atkins I wanted.

Im afraid to move onto OWL, even rung 1. Its just I feel like i have so much weight to get rid of, I think It would be more beneficial for me to stay on extended for a period of time. I dunno, I guess I think the weight is gonna stop coming off. I just finished intial induction on the 29th.

              What do you think?

I did what ADBB calls a modified OWL for the first 6.5 months and lost 100 pounds after my 14 days.

I kept my net carbs under 20 a day but added rung 1 and rung 3 back as one ounce of almonds raw. That used to be Induction in 1999 book you could use any gram caounter and select your own 20 net carbs but 2002 says only from the lists so 1999 became modified OWL here. MAny TDLers do a modified OWL with keeping the carbs well below their CCLL and added a feew more veggies and or an ounce of nuts Bouwolf Kent does it and Cleo is modified too i think.

Read the sticking in the OWL forum about it and see if you want to try it food variety of OWL with spoeed of loss of induction. One large loser in 2003 did the whole ladder but stayed at 20 net for each day.

                Happy low carbing.

290wannabe, don't be afraid to move to Rung 1, I have a sixteenth of the weight to lose than you do, and I'm losing 2 pounds per week, on Rung 5.

Don't forget, the more you have to lose, the faster you will lose by comparison to a lighter person, so if I'm losing this much on Rung 5, you will lose there as well.

Oh, and I'm losing this amount while not exercising, due to a badly sprained ankle that's still black and blue, and a pulled, but healing hamstring. :hug

I did jsut because I like cucumbers. I cannot, in my mind, reason how extra cucumbers are that bad for me. I think I lopst more weight doing that since the extra water adn fiber in the vegetbles helped, too. I di the two weeks adn probably longer, but prefer vegetables to meat, sometimes. So, I found that it worked better for me to haev more vegetables and everything else the same. It wasn't like I was dealing witha portion control problem, jsut that I like vegetables for each meal. So, I would have some in the AM (not really breakfast exactly, but on the drive in with hard boiled eggs) and at lunch and dinner. Invariably, it would go over a cup per meal. I did not haeva problem adding in extra vegetables adn on many days, depending on the meal, I did have jsut the 3 cups. But, if i felt like having an extra handful of peppers, I did. You might try it and tehn you can go back if not. :hug

By this measure, I should be losing more/faster but I'm just not and I don't even LIKE veggies so it's not like I'm going over on them. I made it 6 weeks cheat free and lost 20 lbs. I know, I should be happy, right? But I weigh 243 so why am I not losing weight faster? And the calorie part can't be right eithe - I only eat when I'm hungry so I know I'm not going over on calories.

It's almost TOM (week before) so I'm hoping this mindset and weight is because of that. Of course, yesterday I really cheated big time. :no

I think it is up to you. If you find this overload of veggies to be a one time event, then stay in Induction. You can certainly remain doing Induction for quite awhile, BUT if the monotony of Induction is too much, then you owe it to yourself to move on OWL for success. You can lose in either phase, and really it comes down to control of your appetite and taste. I didn't mind the monotony at all (actually relished it), but that doesn't mean it is for everybody.
