  • day 24 - cheat free and shedding pounds

i did my weigh in today , i started atkins on the 8th of april at 230lbs , i was shocked today to discover ive lost 24lbs , i now am only 22 pounds overweight , and 36 pounds to my goal weight (170)

ive kept true to my diet , i allowed no cheat days as that has deterred me in the past , i keep myself to roughly 10-15 grams of net carbs a day , i DO watch my calories , i know many don't but i dont want to go overboard

i think ill stick with extended induction till i lose the 36lbs

my exercise program is not rigid but it isnt necessarily easy , i walk no less than 1 hr per day , most days its an hour and a half or two hours , i also weight train 3 times a week , i'd love to be able to run , but im still far too out of shape to even attempt such a venture

well , just an update on my weight loss , my overall mood is terrific , i have newfound energy and most important, im NOT hungry!

tonights dinner is grilled chicken breast with bacon , yummy

Great to hear about your wieght loss! Keep up the good work! Great effort with the excercise regimen. That's one of my challenges with CHF. I am walking up to a mile a day myself, but usually a quarter mile or so on the treadmill.

        No - don't!!! :no
You would not then have done the whole Atkins plan.
After losing some weight by following induction we are supposed to move on to the Ongoing Weightloss stage (OWL) and start to introduce more variety one step at a time to find out our CCLL (critical carbs level for losing) as well as discovering if any foods cause us cravings or weight gain.
Then when we have 5-10 pounds to go we move to Premaintenance phase and continue to add carbs or food groups till we reach goal.
Then on to Maintenance when we know how many carbs we can eat to stay at goal, eating most of the foods as we like.

People who stay on induction till they reach goal have no idea how many carbs and which foods they can eat and not put on weight, so are much more likely to put it all back on (plus more) once they revert to their old habits.
Unless you retrain your appetite and learn how your body works by following the phases of Atkins you are setting yourself up for becoming a "yoyo Atkineer" and having to redo induction at regular intervals with all the metabolism problems that might bring :sadblinky
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Congratulations on your success so far. I totally agree with Elizellen. Reread your DANDR. It's important that you move through all the stages of Atkins in order to maintain the new healthier you for a lifetime. Remember, OWL stands for 'ongoing weight LOSS"!
