  • please help

    I cheated today. And I'm so upset about it. I'm so disappointed in myself. I am in my fourth week and have been squeaky clean until today. I have had a stressful situation to deal with today and I was feeling really down. I didn't even want it, but I ate a slice of chocolate cake. I can't even really believe I did it. I mean I didn't want it. I just ate it. It had 40 g of carbs.
    What do I do know? I don't know what to do. Have I ruined everything? This takes me out of ketosis right? Will it take a while to get back into ketosis?

    Jump back on the wagon now, and make sure everything else that enters your mouth is Atkins friendly.. And make sure you drink lots of water. It may knock you out of ketosis temporarily, but you should be back in a day or so.

    Try to think of an alternative way of handling the situation next time.. Maybe by having a snack that you like which is acceptable.. like some pepperoni slices, or check the recipe section for an acceptable desert.

    Don't get discouraged... Just hop back on track, and move forward, cause ya can't change what's already done!

      Hi Cathy.

      Let me answer this in reverse order.

      Will a 40 gram piece of cake take you out of ketosis? It depends. Everyone has a "critical carbohydrate losing level". It's basically the amount of carbs your body can tolerate. Mine is 40 net carbs daily. 2Bigs was 110 net carbs. Loonatika's is over 100 too. So will 40 grams of carbs take you out of ketosis? It's hard to say if you don't know what your CCLL is and you won't know it until you move onto OWL to find it. So, keep your fingers crossed that you are one of the lucky people who have a very high carb tolerance.

      Now to the meat of the problem....

      It's good that you realize that you ate out of stress. What's done is done. What you have to do is develop strategies to cope with similar situations in the future. You don't have to answer these questions here on ADBB, but answer them to yourself.

      What caused the stress?
      What positive non-food action could have lessened the stress for you? (Ummm...slashing someone's tires might make you feel better, but you don't want to land in jail )
      What are things you can do when the stress is too much?

      Think about this and prepare yourself in the future.

      If a co-worker is getting on your nerves, during your lunch or coffee break---go for a walk around the parking lot to blow off some steam or save it up until you get home and work out.

      You can do this and you'll be a much more prepared and stronger Atkineer when you do.

        Hi,
        You have been given really great advice. I just wanted to add whatever you do DON'T beat yourself up over it. It happen and it is done with. Nothing you can do about it except LEARN from it and move on.
