  • OT - Stretchy Denim Jeans are Perverse

I'm a size 20 (in real denim), but just bought a comfy pair of 16's in stretch. Does anyone else hate these things as much as I do? Where I went, you could get regular denim in regular sizes, but only "comfort stretch" in plus sizes (I'm still one size away from being "normal") I don't mean the ones with stretchy waistband, but the ones where the actual fabric is like elastic. I asked my husband (kind of rhetorically), "What is the point of these things?" He said, "To make women feel better about being a smaller size." You know, I think he's right. That's got to result in some sort of delusional disorder with women my size thinking they're a 16. Yeah, right! Just wanted to share my peeve. By the way, I also bought the regular size 18's because I'm going to be in those things very soon!

hmmm i think that we are talking about the same things....the jeans that are sold all over the place (express, old nany, gap, bloomingdales etc) that are labled stretch? ......well i do kinda like these jeans as they are comfortable and stylish however i have to agree with renee and her hubby on this one...they are def a way of inflating sizes with out actually inflating them...my measurements say that i am a size 8 right now yet my size 10 stretchy jeans still fit quite well as do my 12's which leads me to beleive that either i looked like a horrible fat sasague when i was wearing them at my heavist...which i am sure was semi-true but when i was around 180 and wearing them i have pics and they didn't look that bad....and that really i was like a 14 or 16 at my heavist and that these stretch jeans made it possible for me to hold my breath suck in my gut and be a 12......they are kinda a mixed blesssing....i also have to say that i would get really depressed (and still do!) when i could fit into a smaller size of these stretch jeans and then i would get all excited that i had lost weight and go to other stores and get pants of the same size and not be able to get them past my thigh! :yikes

I like stretchy pants of all kinds.. :sadblinky

but didn't I read someplace that sizes overall have gotten bigger...

like.. what used to be a size 12 is now labeled a size 12 but is the same proportions as what USED to be a 14?

I try to stay away from strechy jeans. I find them too comfortable, and if i put on 2 or 3 lbs i don't notice. WHen i wear regular jeans and put on a couple of pounds boy do i feel it. It's what keeps me in line!

I actually really like the streach in them, i think its flattering to figures,
it is irrating to not know what size you are though- like yesterday i got some jeans from walmart the no bondaries brand, and fit into a size 13( :joy ), but in the jordache brand im in a 15/16 and the slacks from old navy and lane bryant are 14's so what size do i wear.....?

I love the stretchy pants/jeans too...and I'm more excited about how I look in them than I am with whatever number is on the label. I swear, I'm a 12 in this brand, a 13/15 in that brand, a 31 ( :yikes ) in another brand...it's crazy.

A reminder though that over time, putting items with lycra/spandex in them in a hot dryer will cause the lycra/spandex to deteriorate, so you might end up with stretched out pants. It happened with a pair of mine...I'm not sure if the pants were just not great to begin with or whether the dryer did it (our apartment laundry room dryer is quite warm when set on cool).

Now, I will throw them in for a little bit just to get some dryer sheet action going on and then hang them to dry.

I love my low rider stretchy jeans. I found them in Walmart in the Junior section. Mind you they were only $3 on the clearance rack. So comfortable too! No belly bulge and tightning at the waist. I have a long torso so hard for me to find a jeans that fit right. Same with swim suits.

I love my lowriders. Although with this diet they begin to fall off my hips after a while because I am losing weight. Another bonus. When I have to keep pulling them up I know this WOE and my exercise program is working.

The juniors section that offers larger sizes is a great place to shop. Stylish clothes too!

Stretch jeans do fool you into thinking that you're a lot slimmer than you are. Argh! What a evil way to make us feel skinny :raving

I'm still pretty big but i havent worn jeans for a few years, i stick to swears, valore and terri outfits (all from epic, modells, against all odds, image etc.) but, thinking about it now, i may be able to buy a pair of jeans by the time the summers up if i keep this steady loss!! im excited!! :joy

Me too..kinda, because when you get jeans that have like 2% spandex, they usually fit so nice
