  • Review My Menu, Please!

    I have gained 2 pounds in the last few days. I need you guys to review my menu for me. I eat the same thing every day because it's varied and easier for me since I'm very busy these days. I have all my veggies at breakfast (and less of them) because ANY veggies make my blood sugar higher (I'm diabetic), so I eat it early in the day and spend the rest of the day lowering it with protein. Trust me, I can't eat more. Everyone is different and my diabetes makes the veggies very hard on my sugar right now. And, yes, I've tried spreading them out. All it does it make my sugar higher for longer. I got the veggie counts from Atkins website.

    Breakfast = 4 egg (2 carbs, 15-20 g fat, 300 calories) omelet with 1/2 cup tomato, 1/2 cup green pepper and 1/4 cup onion (11.5 carbs, .5 g fat, 50 calories).

    AM Snack = cheese string (.5 g carbs, 5 g fat, 62 calories)

    Lunch = 4 all-beef hot dogs (2 carbs at .5 each, 30 g fat, 350 calories)

    PM Snack = cheese string (.5 g carbs, 5 g fat, 62 calories)

    Dinner = 2 chicken burgers (0 carbs, 20 g fat, 350 calories)

    Total Carbs = 16.5, Total Fat = 80 g fat, Total Calories = 1175

    Plus, I do an hour of exercise and drink plenty of water.

    Please help! What's wrong with me? I was doing fine at first. Then it stopped and now I'm gaining!!!

      It could be temporary water weight. Are you eating to much salt?

        It happens to me also, I flucuate up and down 5 pounds. I beleive it is water weight. Watch your salt intake, and see if that helps. TOM is a culprit for me also.

          Also, I think you're not eating enough calories. I'm not sure if you're ratios of 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs are there. Without plugging everything into fitday, I think you need more fat. With the exercise you're doing and your stats, I think you need to eat more.

            Maybe it's the hot dogs? if you're having 4 they could be full of sodium and maybe making you retain water?

              Also, are you eating enough vegetables. I only see 1-1/4 cup and all in the morning. You should be getting a large percentage of your carbs from vegetables.

                yeah, I'd also assume you need to consume more vegetables than that

                  Perhaps choose vegetables that are of a lower sugar count than tomato and onion and see if that makes a difference. The lower on the glycemic index, the more of them you should be able to eat, I would think.

                    All veggies are not equal and Moochie has a great point. You are eating high glycemic veggies to jump start your day. Opt for a noon time salad or something with less sugar. I'm diabetic, too, and I stay away from the high glycemic veggies almost entirely.

                    When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
