  • I ate a cookie :(

So I have been craving fruit cake for about three days. I dont know why, no one has had one. And yesterday the guy I work with brought to work 3 packets of cookies. And today, I have just felt really down and tired, and so I went in and ate a cookie It had 7g of carbs in it. And now I feel sicky :no and really dissappointed in myself :no

So my question is this: How is this going to affect me? I havent cheated before, not in a run of being very good. :help

    Love a-very-silly-feeling Katy xxx

Drink a lot of water and go forward, young lady! *lol*

7 carbs isn't going to kill you.

Beware. Your cravings for sugar will now be twice as bad, so be sure you don't give in to more cookies, ok?

Instead, eat something relatively high in fat for lunch. A little extra mayo on your burger should fit the bill quite nicely!

Chances are that you are still in ketosis. So don't berate yourself.

If you've been craving fruit cake why don't you make a low carb desert? If you are on extended induction, I don't see any reason why you can't have a little fruit. Did you watch Oprah today? she made some kind of fruit parfait. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Serve in a tall skinny glass and make layers (like lasagne) use low carb whipping cream to divide the layers. I think she also added grape (?) nuts or some kind of nut to the desert. KEEP IT PORTION CONTROLLED!

none of that is allowed on Induction...that would be added in the various rungs of OWL.

it sounds lovely but she shouldn't be adding fruit in on extended induction. Maybe an alternative could be some cream cheese and a splash of Da Vinci sugar free syrup? I've done that with raspberry, not too bad.

I don't think I'm fully clear on what you guys mean by "extended" induction. I suppose you would be continuing to eat 20 carbs a day and following the induction to a T. After you've done your two weeks, I don't see the harm in adding an occasional low carb fruit snack. It's not going to slow down your weightloss and certainly not going to kick you out of ketosis. As long as you keep the portion really small. Most importantly it may have prevented you from having that "cookie". I attribute my weightloss success to being resourceful when having a craving for something and making sure NOT to deny myself. I've always found a low carb alternative to what I was craving at the time and it's kept me from cheating, eg-on that cookie.

I suppose if your addiction to carbs and sugar is so strong it would be foolish to have anything sweet even if it was fruit for at least 6 weeks, but why not do something creative about it rather then obsess over not having it. We all have to developed our own systems....if it works for you stick with it.

everyone is different...some people can have a low carb treat and it won't affect their weight loss..for others it can stop the loss and increase the cravings...here extended induction just means those of us going beyond the 14 day period...it does not mean adding in fruits and nuts, etc...if you decide to do that then you should move into OWL to add those things in at the appropriate times so as not to mess up your weight loss.

I agree with hula about this...

How about not obsessing over it? Compare the pro's and con's....and food shortly becomes a non essential in decision making. It goes from eating it to help emotional problems, to becomeing something you hardly think about and only use food to keep you fueled.

New kids-- what you and I might refer to as "extended induction" at ADBB is called "modified OWL"

It's just a difference in terminology.

But Katy, if you are craving food and you have already lost 29 pounds, maybe it's time to move on to Owl and work your way up the rungs?

I have decided to stay on Extended Induction because it has been so easy for me and I haven't had any cravings or cheated. But I do plan to move to OWL, then Pre-Maintence and then Maintence because I belive you have to work the whole program in order to be sucessful. The worst thing would be to go from Extended Induction to eating anything you want, you WILL gain that weight back, you have to work the program. Go back and read the book, it might be time for you to move on.
