The other day when I was in gym class (still in high school) We were talking about weight loss, and my coach informed me that the slower you lose weight, the better chances you have of keeping the weight off in the long run. Now being on this board, I've noticed that many people have lost more than 10 pounds in induction, whereas I only lost 6, and after a whole 4 weeks I've only lost 12 pounds. I was just curious to know if anyone else has ever heard of slow weight loss being beneficial in the long run :sarcasm

Re: Slow weight loss, a good thing?
During the first 14 days of Induction, most people lose between 5-10% of the weight they need to lose. So, a person with 100 pounds to lose can expect a 5-10 pound loss.Originally posted by island reinaThe other day when I was in gym class (still in high school) We were talking about weight loss, and my coach informed me that the slower you lose weight, the better chances you have of keeping the weight off in the long run. If you check the metabolic resistant chart in Chapter 12, you'll be able to see what your degree of metabolic resistance is. Having a high metabolic resistance doesn't necessarily mean that you are a slow loser. It just means that you will need to keep your carbs below 20 in order to lose weight.
I'm a slow loser and I lost 9.5 pounds during my 14 days. I had over 50 pounds to lose, which put me at average to low metabolic resistance.
Frankly, I don't mind being a slow loser. It gives my skin some time to "bounce back". But more importantly, it gives me time to learn more about how my bod reacts to foods and that, imo, will help me keep the weight off once it's gone ('cuz, I have no plans on doing this weight loss thing again---it's hard work!)~Megs~

I heard the same.
It seems logical, quickly lost weight can also be just waterweight and well, that is gained back in no time.
Most people lose 5 to 10 % of the weight they need to lose, so you are right no track with the 6 pounds lost in the first 2 weeks.
I don't know if you looked at how much those people that lost 12 needed to lose in the end, it could be they had to lose a lot more.
I also lost something like 6 pounds (I think, cause my computer broke down and I have another one for the time being and all my information is on my own, so I can't check right now, but it wasn't that much more for sure)
Good luck losing !!!41 year old female, lenght 5'5'' and a half

I lost a bunch during induction... now it's really slowed down, but I'm not giving up... I think we're just all different.. and we have to roll with it2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Hey Tasha, i only lost 6 pounds and that put me in the "average" resistance category, so I'm happy. I think (please don't shoot me for saying this) that the "bigger" you are to start off with, the more likely you will lose heaps of pounds during Induction. But listen to what everyone is saying - losing 5-10% is the way to go and sounds like you did?30yo F 5'5 (166cm)

the amount you lose in induction will depend not only on how much you need to lose but how hard you work your Atkins how deastic a change in total eating it is for you and how much glycogen your body had stored since the more glycogen the more fluid weight you are going to lose too.
The slower you lose the weight means that you are practicing your new health eating habits and your new exercise habits and making them a part of your life just as Dr Atkins said those that work all the phases of his plan are the ones who don't regain the weight.
Think of this slow losing vs the slimfast rapid losing. thoise folk doing that plan rapidly get skinny but didn't learn how to eat int he real world sothey gain it back and again lose it on slimfast and are destin to be regainers.
those folk that rapidly lose in induction all the way to goal don't learn anything about how food groups effect them as somebody doing OWL does so when they move to maintenance and they have a full maintenace menu you are clueless as to what is going on when their appetite is back and they are craving junk foods. They don't know what foods triggered this but in their minds they say will its okay I'll enjoy this pig out and restart my Atkins tomorrow cause I know it will work and I will fast lose the pounds I'm about to gain. :no :no
So work your Atkins all 4 phases and build you a solid house of Atkins to stand for your entire life with the foundation laid strong in Induction the framing with those OWL food rungs andthe roofing donw in Premaintenance so you can put the fininshing touches on your entirior in maintenance.

That makes sense, thanks for the advice everyone. That's a good conclusion; do atkins right and get the results you want. I just want to be able to do this diet once, and keep the weight off forever

I think that you should look at it as changing your way of eating once and for the rest of your life, and keeping the weight off for the rest of your life.
Don't fall into the trap of looking at this like a diet. This is a Way of Eating for Life.
