  • AHHH! I accidently ate a hidden potatoe!!

    Okay, I know what you're thinking..how could you accidently do that? Well, yesterday I went to a family bbq and ate very well..I thought. Plain burgers, turkey (my grandma wanted it) and salad. I thought it was salad w/ oil and vinegar with some bacon. Than I took my first bite..ahhh a small tiny potato!!! Of all the people there, I got this nasty little bugger!! Well, I tried to flush my system with water, don't know if it helped or not but I was running to the bathroom all night!!! This morning my ketones were trace..I was so bummed b/c they were almost black!! Well, 10 minutes ago, I rechecked and VOILA!!! they're back! Thank the Lord!! If someone sneaks you an accidental potatoe..don't fret. Stick to the diet and it will all be okay!! Oh yea..weighed myself 10 minutes ago..and down to 176!! yippie..this wol rocks!

    I've found the hidden crouton...the hidden garbanzo bean...it's no big deal, so don't worry about it.

    Re: the ketosis strips. Whether it's a trace of colour, or a dark purple, it means the same thing. The depth of the colour has more to do with how hydrated you are, it doesn't mean there are more or less ketones being eliminated.
    If you drank extra water last night it makes sense your stix would be trace, right?

      Nah...dont fret! I have eaten the occasional potatoe in food etc. (I mean tiny piece)! Doesnt seem to do anything to me! I have never checked for ketones I can just go by my taste in my mouth (YUCK!)

        I think we have all been somewhere and eaten something, then found out it had a hidden thing in it.. Just shake it off, drink your water, and move on!!

            Great advice -- don't let one little mistake ruin a whole day. Correct the mistake or prevent it from happening again, and then drive on. The worst thing you could do is fret yourself into eating one or something worse like pie on purpose.

              If you eat a potato by accident, just add it to your day's carb count and adjust for the rest of the day accordingly.

                  Ketones are the byproducts of your body consuming fat for fuel through ketosis-lipolysis (or ketosis for short). They are typically expelled by the body through urine.

                      you can buy keosticks, found in most any pharmacy area of a store. You just test your urine with one and voila...if it turns any shade of pink, you're in ketosis.

                        If you are following Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short), keeping to the Rules of Induction, and eating properly from the Acceptable foods list, then you will no doubt be in ketosis.

                        Its not necessary to measure them, but some people like to. The problem with the ketostix is that they don't tell you whether the ketones come from the fat in your thighs or the fat from the mayo in your chicken salad that you just ate.
