  • Going to Maui...want to eat fruit...advice please

I am in my third week of Atkins and I started Atkins because I bought tickets to Maui and I wanted to loose weight before I left. Welll, now I am so nervous about going because I am doing so well and do not have cravings for food. I don't care about eating carbs there other than the fresh fruit. Has anyone encountered this and have any advice on how to approach it?
    Thanks,
    Shanna

I am going to Maui and I am not considering going to OWL. When I get back I plan on sticking with induction until I get close to my goal weight. I have 40 lbs left to loose. It's a week of eating fruit and fish....is there anything I should consider before I leave? Any advice on how to do this? I don't want to gain all my weight back eating fruit, but how can I be in Maui and not eat the fresh fruit?

Also, I am going on the 31st of May.
        Thanks,
        Shanna

Well, if you move through OWL, you can have fruit.. That might solve your problem. :nod

This is my opinion...I think that IF you avoid the junk carbs and really concentrate on low carb choices while in Maui, I see nothing wrong with a few pieces of fruit per day. However, you most likely won't lose weight while you are there unless you do a lot of hiking or other exercise.

While you are there, pick up a bunch of macadamia nuts!!! Try to snack on those instead of a lot of extra fruit, and you just might lose weight while you are there!

Here is a link to the carb counts of different fruits. Make a plan before you go of the lowest carb fruits indigenous to Maui. And by all means, have a great time!!!

Most tropical fruits fall under the "fruits other than berries and melons" rung of OWL due to their high carbohydrate amounts. For example, 1 "medium" mango (11 ounces) contains about 48 net carbs. So even if you eat plain boiled or broiled fish, the amount of mango you'll be able to eat and stay under 20 net carbs daily is about 4 ounces.

I just returned from 8 days in Honolulu. I thought I could follow the "induction" lifestyle while there, but cheated by drinking alot of pina coloda's etc. There's fresh fruit almost everywhere you go and the terryaki chicken has a honey/sugar glaze at most restaurants. I gave up and re-started when I returned. Hawaii is full of sin.... lol If you can plan ahead and stick with it, I admire you.

I just returned from a 1 week vacation to Maui. I pretty much stayed on my induction diet. When I wanted to eat fruit, I just took one bite or two of fruit that was served to my husband. That way I felt satisfied that I had actually been able to have one of those wonderful pineapples, mangoes, etc. I would "treat" myself to dessert in the evening by going to one of the local coffee shops and ordering a coffee with sugar free syrup and half and half. It helped me to feel that I was getting something special too while I was there. Also, I took pepperoni slices and cheese and hard boiled eggs on the airplane - it is a long ride! I lost 2 pounds while I was there!
