  • Pregnant and confused

Hi all. I am pregnant with twins and trying to maintain what I have gained. I am not trying to lose any weight at this time. My question is if I don't start with Induction, how do I find my maintenance level of carbohydrates. Thanks :help

You will have to do that after you have those two healthy babies you are carrying now. Just eat healthy for now, cutting out the sugar, pasta, bread things and other refined & processed foods. Eath good meats, fats, and veggies. If you nurse the babies, then you will need to continue the maintainance phase for awhile longer.
However after the babies are here safe and sound, and you aren't nursing, then you can do a clean induction, and climb the OWL ladder cleanly.

Let us know when those babies are here, and in the mean time you take care of yourself so you can take care of the babies.

I agree. Do it after the babies come and AFTER you start nursing...However, if you want a jump start on your weight loss do it as you are weaning the babies from the breast. You'll see rapid weight loss in you and since it's at the tail end of breast feeding it won't effect the lil ones.

Um, I know all this cause I have a two year old and a healthy wife you constantly keeps me updated on these items..god bless her! hehehe

Ketones are not safe to ingest for the babies, either while you are pregnant or while you're nursing. If you maintain a high enough carb level to keep you out of ketosis and avoid the bad carbs, then you and babies should both be fine.

As always, talk to your doctor about your diet with your young'uns.

Breast feeding is best for burning up those pounds after birth. I would stick to the Maintainance phase of Atkins if I were you. Forget about losing weight right now just concentrate on eating healthy carbs - veggies, whole wheat products, berries etc.

              Happy delivery to you both!!!

Maybe it would be great for you both to start a "Pregnant and on Atkins" topic. I am sure that other pregnant women would like to share experiences with you.

Another tip on breastfeeding - my milk dried up within 3 days of starting atkins, even though I was drinking more water and taking fenugreek. My baby was 9 months old, but I wish I could have done it for at least a year. :sadblinky

Wait to start induction until you are absolutely sure that you are finished nursing!

As someone who has had twins........ don't panic about your weight gain!!! You will find that as you near the end of your pregnancy that your appetite will disappear due to lack of room! You also need to remember that with twins there literally is two of everything! Unless you are having identicals then there might only be one placenta. I was told by my ob/gyn that even the weight gain in your breasts can be double that of a singleton pregnancy! My best advice is just eat healthily, take cae of yourself and try to enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy. When your two bundles arrive life will be completely different!!!
