  • Not enough said about Maintenance!

Yea, its not as sexy as Induction or OWL where the real action is but I'm sure there are plenty of people worried about maintaining their goal weight when they get there. Everywhere you read... one slip and you're back to where you started. So untrue! It's now approaching 6 months since I've made goal and I'm still there! IT CAN BE DONE. Believe it. Now, here's the trick.... You've got to live the low-carb life. Pretty earth shattering, isn't it.

I owe so much to the folks here at ADBB. I can't put a price tag on the education I received here. What I chose to do in payback was stay here and offer my personal experiences. If you're one of those people worried or want more details on my low-carb maintenance lifestyle just drop me a PM or an e-mail. I'd be more than happy to assist.

    Regards,
    BobbyP

    hey perry
    that is great!
Im in maintenance now and still have to find my ace. I have recently upped my calorie intake because I am still losing. I figured maybe my calories were too low.My carb count is up to 55.
I am 7 pounds below my goal. I do tend to have the fear that I will lose control or regain too much.
I want to stop losing without regaining too much but I feel this is such a delicate balance. Any insight would be appreciated.

Terry, just let your weight find its balance point. Once you get to ACE you will regain some water weight. Let it happen and do not panic. It will level out and this is the weight you should be able to easily maintain!

      Great job! Continued success.

          thanks Perry,
I took your advice regarding eating the crust of bread when dining out.One thing I have noticed is that I need to keep tabs on the wine! Boy does it hit me quick now! that was never the case before starting atkins! Hahah

any alcohol will effect Atkins folks faster then when they were carbers. It has to do with the way the liver is primed from ketosis.

So Perry any mantenance foods to watch out for?

I'm still a little paranoid about trying new things, 2big. Since I'm around chocolate everyday and the aroma of roasted almonds and peanuts I'd have to say I've noticed my most severe cravings have hit after a few Reese Cups! Love that candy more than any other.

Other things I watch out for.. bread and anything with flour. I swear I can feel the effects of a bagel within minutes of eating it!

                How about you?

since I had my one cheat binge this past spring I know I'm a bagel away from 300 pounds again so I'm sticking with my low carb flax breads. I did add more of the other veggies and some of the wheat based lower carb pastas, 19 per serving.

I have a huge advantange over you when it comes to candy because all chocolate candy in the US has a soy addative and I'm deadly allergic to soy of any kind. That helped keep me away from all the frankenfoods too.

                    OWL

Perry, I enjoy and learn from your posts, Congrats on the continued maint. I was feeling great coasting to the maint. phase of atkins and happy with the progress.Last week, I wanted to bear down and get to my final goal, But this week, no weight loss, then a weight gain of 2 pounds and i was floored, I doubled my daily activites and had been doing nearly inductions carbs daily, so I thought. After long hot days in Manhattan I would down a couple of glasses of diet coke, About a week into this, I realized it was not diet but classic coke, 39g of carbs per. Well, I found my culprit and have gone back to water, But i had to laugh at my aging eyeballs.

Good post Perry. I always enjoy your posts as well. I am like Perry in that I have been on maintainance since last Oct. So it will soon be a year that I have maintained my weight loss, and almost 2 years doing this WOE.
It took me awhile to really try anything new. As a matter of fact it was just within the last 2 weeks that I really stepped out of the box so to speak, and had 1 slice of pizza. I don't think this is something I will do much because I just know what those type of carbs can do to me. I like spaghetti, and may have a small amount from time to time. I know though that I can not have these type of carbs much at all because I am a carb addict. So for me it is not a matter of everything in moderation, it is more a matter of having some of these things in small amounts on rare occasions.
I prefer my good friends the low carb fruits and veggies more.
I feel great, look better than I have in a long time and I love this WOE.

                      EDIT
