  • I have no idea what to eat!

    Well, maybe that's a overstatement since I'm still very much eating atkins whole foods

    But what I mean is that I'm at my ideal weight, and I really can't figure how much to eat anymore. I'm never really that hungry. The only times that I am are after I eat a salad or something with a bigger dose of carbs.

    I know BMRs are just how much is needed to keep you alive. I'm working on trying to gain weight that's just muscell, but for right now I don't have much. So how many calories am I supposed to be eating?

    If I didn't plug into fitday everyday I'd probably eat under 1000 since I usually don't have any cravings

    Did you not go thru OWL or do pre maintence? you should be in maintenace now and NOT in ketosis. That is what is suppressing your appetitie i imagine.


    You should go thru all the rungs and adding the foods in the carb ladder. I cant say what your calories should be (though they shouldn't be under 1000), I think at this point you should be looking at adding the food rungs back in and bringing your fats down and your carbs up.

      I can't be in ketosis, that stopped a long time ago. I think it's just that I'm busy and nothing really triggers cravings save salads and so forth.

      I think my BMR is something like 1,843, but that's only to keep my body working I imagine.

        You might want to post a menu, from your first post is sounds like you are in ketosis.

          Sure thing, this is what I had yesterday. I didn't have time to plug this into fitday but I kept a list in my class planner:

          1 slice wholegrain toast-12
          1/2 tablespoon butter-0
          1 leftover hardboiled egg- .5

          3 cups salad with some shredded cheese (had peppers and tomates and carrots in it too, just leftovers really)-15

          about 1 cup strawberries-8
          chicken breast-0

          snacked on
          2 ounces cheese-2
          and soy milk- 2

          so almost 40 carbs, and my ccl is between 45 and 50

          edit: and 80 ounces water

            If I were you I'd go for strawberries and cream every day until your appetite kicks back in!

            Might as well take advantage of the situation!

                why do you say ketosis stopped a long time ago? every human on the plant is in Dr Atkins described ketosis while they are sleeping since the food they had for dinner has long been processed and they are burning fats for fuel. Atkineers never stop burning fats for fuel there just aren't as many excess ketones of the measurable in urine type spilling out of our blood stream and into our urine so the stix don't record any ketones as we get to premaintenance levels.

                what are you doing for the exercise part of your Atkins? bwe careful with your chicken and strawberries meal cause without a fat that could trigger blood sugar swings.

                Have you added back carbs to actually see where your CCLM is or are you using the estimates from DANDR?

                I need to ask where is your foods from rung 3, 6,7 and 8? You seem to have gone from induction to rung 9 and nothing inbetween other then carrots.

                  Rung 9 is my favorite and also the highest for me obviously. I didn't know that that happens when they sleep, so I guess I could possibly still be in it, even though I'm actually trying to gain muscell mass. I threw away my remaining ketone strips just because they drove me nuts- but I don't have the bad breath from it that I used to get during induction.

                  I slowly increased the carbs to find my CCL, and for excercise I'm doing the Slim in 6 video every morning (I'm up to the secound stage of the video series).

                  Should I add more butter to my toast or combine the fat with the strawberries? And Looking through my fitday it looks like I'm hardly ever hitting my BMR, which I'm worried about.

                    good for you SI6 is a great program. have you joined the vidiots challenge?

                    forget the BMR since it isn't exact for your body. and listen to your body.

                    the 30% protein on Atkins will add muscle mass even if you didn't workout nor lost scale weight. UConn did the study and measured muscle mass gains for folk eating Atkins maintnenancwe levels. They lost fat and added muscle just eating Atkins.

                    since you want more cals how about swapping your toast for the same amount of nuts carbs spread through out the day. huge difference in the total cals there. i

                    f you get hungry after you have the salad meal you have a triggerring food in your salad as eating should satisfy hunger not trigger it.

                    maintenance should be about 50% fats 30% protein and 20 percent carbs where are you?

                      I've suspected carrots of making me hungry, but I try and get most of my carbs out of the way during breakfast and lunch so my body can recover before bedtime. Maybe my logics off on that one now that I think about that.

                      I didn't join the challenge because it's my first time, and I'm worried that my results won't be impressive compared to everyone else

                      That's the ratio I always try and aim for on fitday, but looking back on the bar graphs I'm usually just hitting the 1200 mark.

                        hey everyone of them struggled and can tell you helpfel things to get throw it. Brook conked her head on the wall sitting down to use the bathroom abck when she started cause her legs buckled from the SI6 workout soreness. they all have stories like that to share. you will have a blast sharing and discussing the bully torturing you on the videos. just go read some of the posts and you can post hey i just started doing SI6 and they will all welcome you and help you. they don't bite and they can''t see you working out they just do the workouts too.

                        Now back to your logic yep flawed. think about having a car engine that runs on the middle octane you can't fill it with the high octane stuff twice and then the low stuff and average out the 3 tanks cause it was running too rich for most of the time and then too lean later. Just as that car will be knocking not running well so too will your body. yiou want to idealy have every meal in the right ratio if you can.

                        you can select higher density nutrients for your carbs like 5 nut carbs or seed carbs gives you better fuel supply then 5 carbs of your bread. you can pick rung 6 leegumes too or some of the higher rung fruits too and the starchy veggies like carrots can give you more bang for your carbs too.

                        you will get there don't worry just keep making one adjustment at a time and see how you feel.

                        oh and so we don't confuse any new Atkineers maybe you could ask a mod to move this topic to the maintenance forum.
