  • I'm Pregnant

Hi everyone. Been doing induction since February and moved to OWL last month. Lots of success.

Just found out that my husband and I are expecting and couldn't be happier. :icondance

I'm trying to understand how to move to lifetime maintenance and what to eat everyday. Book's been a lot of help but I'm concerned I'm not eating enough (it's only been a few days).

I had a piece of cheese and nuts for breakfast along with decaf coffee. Should I add some eggs, a piece of whole wheat bread, oatmeal or whole grain cereal? Also, should I have some fruit and milk?

For lunch I have a salad with 2 cups of veggies, cheese, some kind of protein and mayo or salad dressing. Should I just add beans and have some fruit and that's enough? More cheese for a snack in the afternoon.

Then for dinner I have protein, 2 cups of "5 carb" veggies and some more beans. I have low carb ice cream, some fruit and milk as well. Nuts for a snack along with decaf tea.

What else are you all eating? What should I be eating?

    I appreciate your help.

Congrats Indy, and it looks like you are doing well, but that link 2Big gave you is also a good source of info. Take care of yourself, and keep us up dated on how things are going.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to read the article right now (it was a busy day at work...)

It is our first. We've been married three years and "kind of" trying. This was the first month I actually monitored my ovulation and bingo! I can't believe it. Very exciting...

Moving to maintenance is so weird after being on induction/owl for so long but it's a must-do.

                I'll keep you posted!

                      Congratulations!!

All I can tell you is that, around your fifth month or so, you will get really hungry. (That's when they tell you that you're supposed the gain the most anyway, so it sort of corresponds.) So, I would think if you just make sure to eat healthy, take your vitamins, and when you get to that "hungry" stage (as opposed to the "I want to go to sleep at 8 p.m." stage where you probably are right now!) just eat more of what's good for you. Don't make the mistake I did ("Hey...pudding has calcium in it!!") and you should do fine! If it makes you feel any better, I gained 50 pounds while pregnant with my first, and only ended up 10 pounds higher than I was originally after giving birth...and that was without being vigilant like you will be!! (Also, I was just about your weight when I got pregnant with my first....ahh...those were the days!!)

Congratulations! I just found out that I'm pregnant also, and have the same questions and concerns you do. I do NOT want to gain alot of weight. Since I've found out, I have actually gained more than I wanted, but I'm working on being better. I was so concerned with getting out of ketosis, that I didn't really care for the first few weeks. lol. So now I'm making sure I eat alot of fruit, whether thats a good thing or not, I want the vitamins. I've been craving tomatoes.

But I've refused to go back to drinking regular soda. BUT Studies have shown that have excess apertame, and succralose aren't good for babies. And there is only one sode with splenda.. NEedless to say I've been drinking alot of milk and fruitjuice. I think thats been my big problem.. UGH!

Dilemmas. I'm not super worried about it, because I know once I'm done nursing I can go back on induction and whip myself into shape!!!

Here's wishing you a Happy and healthly 9 months!!!

I recently found out I'm pregnant as well. I'm not so much worried about the weight gain during pregnancy, as I am with getting too much "sugar" from carbs. I'm wondering what the typical amount of daily carbs should be when pregnant. urplequ:

Make sure your carbs count. Stay away from the refined carbs (white rice, white bread, white flower and regular sugar)

Make you day include whole grains, full fat milk or 2% and fruit, as well as the other stuff you were enjoying in OWL.

IMO, every single person on the planet should be eating this way, whether they are overweight, underweight, pregnant or nursing.

If this were the case, obesisty, heart disease and type II diabetes wouldn't be such an epidemic. :sadblinky

Good luck everyone on your pregnancy journey. I hope to be making the same kind of announcement within the next year or so after reaching my goal.
