In 3 days I'll be at 1 year!! Honestly, it is not crazy hard to deal with. I eat lots of delicious food every day, with plenty of variety. I focus on the food lists from Atkins For Life and have really had no issues. Exercise is really the key for me. I continue to build muscle which continues to raise my metabolism, which continues to allow me to eat even more. So, actually, over the past year, I've been ablel to increase what I eat rather than decrease.

Trust me, it can be done and YOU can do it!!

I've been at my goal weight for over a year now.

My mother has been for over 4 years and looks amazing! She experienced such an energy boost from the diet, that she runs about a marathon a month. *Crazy!*

Anyway - i suspect that those who gain it all back may have an emotional eating problem. It's easy to fall into the "reward yourself with food" trap especially if you don't look at Atkins as a lifestyle but a diet... once you reach your goal - time to reward with high carb foods? *eeeek!*

Atkins works and keeps working as long as you follow it. In addition, I've also experienced awesome health benefits. I have the highest good cholestorol count my doc's ever seen (bad cholestorol is only 33). I have more energy, need less sleep, no emotional ups & downs, stopped suffering from seasonal allergies, and my skin cleared up. Not bad, eh?

The only other thing i can think of to blame for gaining the weight back is not reading the book carefully. You really have to follow every single direction to a tee. I actually tried the diet twice - the first unsuccesfully because i didn't read the book.

      Good luck w/ everything!

Actually bottomed out at 197 but got a few back.

I think you need to stay at a certain weight for long enough to "reprogram" your body since part of me probably thinks I should still weigh 270+.

I personally I think maintenance is the hardest stage of all because it never ends and you have to constantly work at it. There's no motivation of the scale moving anymore. And you're always wondering how much you can eat without gaining weight.
I think the reason people regain weight is that they see a diet as a "fix" like a haircut and don't realize that if you go off it, the weight returns faster than before.
It's now 17 months for me!
My weight got up to 209 during the holidaze but it's finally back to 200.

There's just no going back. I have not eaten a real piece of candy ('cept the sugar free ones) or a real piece of pizza in 2 years.
I eat bread like once in a full moon.
        No rice either.
But I'm drinking more beer & wine now. :nod

January 19, 2006 it will be 4 years for me.

A life-changing experience. My only regret is, I was 46 years old when Atkins found me!!

I've never eaten better, felt better, looked better in my whole life!
