  • "Other Carbohydrates"

For some reason, I must have missed this one during my readings....

How you do incorporate "other carbs" found on the nutrition label. Do you add them with the general carbs on the label?

For example, this box of Kashi cereal reads:
    Total Carb: 25g
    fiber" 5g
    Soluble Fiber: 5g
    Insoluable: 4g
    Sugar: 5g
    Other Carbs: 15 g

    Please advise?

Recently had two babies in short time frame and gained 80-100lbs with EACH pregnancy- argh.

do you have a typo as dietary fiber should be more. both the insoulbe and soluble fiber are both dietary fiber.

other carbohydrates are any carb not simple sugars or fiber. they used to be called complex carbohydrates. they are just there for informational purpose on your box. take your total carbs and subtract the total fiber carbs to get net carbs.

http://www.vitacost.com/KashiCereal There's several varieties of Kashi cereal. "Other" carbs would be your digestible complex carbs; not "fiber" and not "sugar" such as you get in veggies or pasta.

            Re: "Other Carbohydrates"

            Thanks guys...

The dietary fiber is 5g. It is Kashi Heart to heart cereal. Very good, as long as you watch the portion size.

So, do I add carbs plus "other carbs" and then subtract the fiber. And, do I subtract both insoluble and insolable?

Sorry, I don't come across this too often and wanted to make sure I was understanding things correctly.

              Re: "Other Carbohydrates"

see the word dietary fiber on your label that is your total fiber in the cereal subtract that from the total carbohydrates and you have the cereal's net carbs so 25 minus 5 would give you 20 net carbs

              EDIT
