  • Looks like I'm joining you.

Just found out I am expecting. (quite a shock considering there have only been 2 times and protection each time.) my husband is thrilled but to be honest I am not. I was finally doing something for me after 5 years of being nothing but a mom and losing any identity I had beyond that. The main thing that worries and scares me more than anything is the thought of gaining all my weight back if I juyst jump from rung 2 to maintainence.

Anyone else know if I will jut balloon up like a lot of ppl do after eating carbs again? Im so worried about that. Oh and can someone point me to a list of maintainence acceptable foods, I cant find my book at the moment.

    Congratulations!

I would suggest eating whole foods, avoiding all processed sugars and starches and relax and enjoy each day ...

No harm in eating what God intended us to eat!

      Congratulations!
You may not be too enthusiastic now...but when your little bundle of joy is there with you, oh my!
Betty has it right... I'd take in most of your carbs with veggies and "real" foods. You'll have the leeway of "eating for two" and you can drop back to the weight loss phase of Atkins anytime, after pregnancy and breast feeding. Don't stress about it too much... just don't go overboard and you'll be fine, I'm sure.

Congratulations! I see you have already visited the Pregnancy and Nursing forum. I agree with the others, stick to whole/fresh foods low carb and keep the goal at staying healthy for your baby and not gaining over and above actual baby weight.

Thank you. I just got some news last night that made things a little more exciting. My roomate is pregnant as well. We have the same due dates! Its definately going to make this kind of fun. At least I will not be going through this alone. I have been eating some whole grains (adding them slowly) and so far havent gained. How soon after adding a new food do you know if it makes you gain or not?

            Congratulations!

I'd say if you are pregnant it willb e hard, if not impossible to know if weight gain is from what you are eating. Hormones etc are going to cause weight gain too.

I would just relax and do exactly what betty suggested, stay away from the refined carbs and just have whole foods and whole grains.

One thing you can watch for is if a food causes blood sugar spikes etc.

very cool congratulations and good advice here and all stuff you know anyway I am sure ...prepare your own foods (as often as possible).. eat a wide variety of fresh foods ..... do not over eat ...eat what you need to feel satisfied

avoid tuna and sushi (my daughter hated that part!)

Re: Looks like I'm joining you.

Congratulations....my Atkins buddy, who inspired me to give this a shot 2 years ago, had lost from a tight 16 to a comfortable 6 when she got pregnant unexpectedly, just as I was getting started. She just upped her carbs by eating 2 servings of fruit every day and 1 slice of WW bread.....the day her daughter was born (6lb 8oz) baby she had gained 17 pounds. 3 weeks later she was 1 pound less than when the baby was born, eating the exact same diet she had while she was pregnant because she was nursing. Compare that to 5 years ago when she had her first kid, gained 53 pounds and lost 9 when the baby was born, which she promptly gained back!!! She is my hero and who I will be modeling my next pregancy after! Just don't add in white sugar, flour and pasta/rice etc and you will be fine. You don't have to go hog wild adding carbs either, she just added enough to barely kick her out of ketosis and checked every couple days to be sure. Baby was healthy and so was she. She continued to exercise the whole time too and felt so much better during that pregnancy. Just think how great you will feel showing your baby off and looking like a pretty mom rather than a fat blob!! Which is what I felt like both times after my babies were born...I wanted everyone to see the baby but I was so ashamed of the size 18-20 clothes I was wearing adn was just sure everyone was saying "that poor girl, it will be so hard for her to lose that weight".....which by the way I didn't do until my youngest was 5...just gained more.

You can have a healthy pregnancy without eating everything in sight...the most important things for mom to eat anyway are protein and fat...got that one covered with Atkins!

An excuse is just a way to justify what we wanted to do anyway....so, what's your excuse?
