      Re: Peeking in!

Well, I did great getting the water weight down, but then two things happened. TOM (ugg) is here and messed up due to stupid birth control pill problems.... and I made the mistake of buying some of those low carb flax chips from trader joes. I say mistake because while technically I was testing them...I kinda knew they were going to be a problem. I had tasted them before, and because I haven't had "real" chips in over two years, they taste INCREDIBLE to me.

I was in denial, basically. I opened the bag and I haven't stopped munching them. They are in the cubboard right now, screaming at me. And the problem is, I can't throw them away, because the other family members have fallen in love with them. They really taste that good, and have the best crunch EVAR.

I have to keep reminding myself that I am not "failing"...I'm learning. And I am doing it in the state of mind that I won't end up hurting myself and gaining weight. I now know that I cannot buy flax chips and keep them in the house, because portion control is a massive issue with them.

So I am back to basic induction...again. Fortunately as of this morning I am already starting to drop the water.

And I am starting to realize why so many folks end up coming back months/years later and having to start over. If I didn't test this stuff and just assumed I could eat it because it was low carb...I can see how it could go south real fast.

        Re: Peeking in!

So sorry to hear about your misadventures with the flax chips. Sometimes I think maintenance is the hardest part of this way of eating!

Do you really need to go back to induction? I mean... as you're at goal already, couldn't you just drop those chips from your menu and, if the scale moved a bit, then drop back a few carbs for a while?

I donno, I like the "safety" of induction. And I get results from it quicker I guess. I like to see my goal weight back on the scale asap so I feel like I can start my next experement quicker. Hmmm...

Oh boy! I know the feeling of wanting to see goal weight back when the direction starts to veer wrong!
Let us know how you get on.

I hear ya Maerow! I find that maintaining is much harder than losing.

                You got that right!!!

I like your attitude Maerow that you are 'learning' and not 'failing' , I too try to think this way.

I used to jump back to induction all time, keep my carbs extremely low on a daily basis etc. Recently i've discovered that as long as i'm exercising, i can eat up to 120g's a day without gain. Actually i've gone as high as 150, without anything other than water weight which disappeared in a day, though i wouldn't stay at such a high level for more than a day. I usually am from 50-100. Though i still stay at what I think is a moderate level, it's nice to know i can eat a bit more some days, and on some occaisions (all of those carbs were from legal starchy higher carb foods, no 'white' stuff) and not have to panic. It's all been part of my learning experience.

I think my biggest mistake in this whole maintenance process has been letting myself become carb-phobic, and not realizing (or pretending to not realise LOL) that exercise is mandatory part of maintaining my goal weight.

I have been struggling up and down for 1.5 yrs now on 5-10 lbs over goal, mostly 10 . TOM is coming any day, so i haven't weighed this week, but i'm quite sure by how my clothes feel, that even with my now higher carb intake, I've actually lost weight, most likely because of exercise, and eating smaller more frequent meals. It's all part of the whole learning process of maintainance I guess.

Sorry didn't mean to thread jack .

Ok, I am back down to 130! So now the fun part will be figuring out what I want to test out next. I have safely added yogurt and strawberries almost daily with nothing bad happening! Hmmmm.... what to try, what to try...

That's cool Maerow! I loved being able to add strawberries and raspberries back in...

                      Re: Peeking in!

Hahaha I keep meaning to do more testing but then I get up in the morning and have my eggs for breakfast, and at night all I want is my cobb salad. :P Oh well at least I am happy! AND the scale was back at 129 lbs this morning! WOOT WOOT!

Ok there isn't much more I want to add in the dairy rung, yogurt and cottage cheese are the main foods I love and they are good to go...and for fruit I already know that cautalope, honeydew, strawberries and tiny bits of pineapple don't do much to me. So that rung should be safe enough to leave for now.

I think that leaves nuts as next. Oh man, dangerous. I have a hard time with portion control when it comes to nuts...I was thinking maybe that's because they were always "forbidden" and I never got enough of them. I was that way with cottage cheese for awhile, when it was new I over ate it and obsessed about it, now that it's safe for me to eat, I have stopped craving and wanting it so bad.

I also found some sweet and spicy pecans at trader joes...oh man did I over do it with those. But I am pretty good with macidamias (sp?) so I think I might try those next.
