  • Sprouted Grains Bread

Anyone know what the adantage is to having sprouted grains rather than regular..or if there is any? Are they healthier for you? i found a sprouted bread that i like, tastes a bit like sourdough, and it's got a nice texture (fairly heavy) so i think i'll stick with it...but was just curious what the benefits are?

The biggest downfall with the bread is it's only good for 2 days after you open it..so i've been having to keep it frozen which is a pain!

    Re: Sprouted Grains Bread

Supposedly sprouted grains and seeds have more protein, vitamins, and enzymes than the grain/seed itself. They're also easier to digest because part of the complex carbohydrates are partially broken down during the sprouting process.

I've been using a brand of flax meal that uses sprouted flax seeds. It makes for a really good muffin top flax bun.

the one I bought is from a company in Toronto called Stonemill Bakery, according to the website it's only avail in Ontario and quebec . I do know there are other brands though..I know that in the grocery stores here we have Ezekiel bread, they keep it in the freezer of the health food/organic section. Here is their website: http://www.foodforlife.com/?id=44 I've never tried this brand..but the carbs are similar at 12net per slice.

From what I've seen on the web Eno is correct that it does seem like it's higher in many vitamins and nutrients. I actually like the taste and texture of it..it's the most filling bread i've found yet and has a slight sourdough taste which i like.

Thanks Jen, I'll see if I can find something similar. Is your bread the same as ezekiel? I don't like the ezekiel and it goes bad before I could ever eat it all.

I compared the ingredients, and other than the sprouted grain and water, nothing else is really the same lol. i've actually never tried ezekiel before, i thought it might be similar but i guess not. this is the ingredient list for the one i have (sorry couldn't copy/paste) http://www.stonemillbakehouse.com/03...ad_Detail.html

has sourdough starter which is what i think gives it it's nice flavour. Maybe you can find something with similar ingredients?

That even looks good! I see Costco, Whole Foods and I love the name of the store called "Goodness Me"! I'll look for it at my W.F., that's probably my best bet.
