  • what is your average daily carb intake?

    Curious---
    For all of you who have been on Atkins for at least a year, are high on the ladder, or are in the ongoing weight loss maintenance phases- can you tell me about how many carbs you take in on average - each day?

    I know everyone will be different...based on many factors...I'm just curious

    I can usually take in up to 70 if I'm not exercising, with no gain. If I'm exercising regularily I can easily have 90-100 without gain.

    I made the mistake of keeping my carbs far too low in the beginning, and once i really added back the carbs as I should have during owl, it allowed for so much variety!

      Right around 50 grams and I run 35 miles a week.

        As of recent I've been eating about 60g per day. I cut out whole grains and most fruits so my carb intake has dropped. I was eating around 90g per day before.

          Betty do you actually gain if you go over 50? wow i'm really shocked, when I run i can easily go over 100 without any issues. Highest I've gone is 110-120 a day running (only up to 12 miles a week) and i was at my thinnest then!

            Oh this is great to learn!! I too kept my carb intake low for so long it did make for many stalls and aggravation with food choices!! I can't stress enough how important (and more fun) it is to climb the rungs according to Dr. A.

            Whats really interesting to me here is that some of you can see-saw between carb levels depending on the amount of exercise you might be doing. That's pretty cool to know!!
            It really does go hand in hand.

            Thanks everyone for all this info! Any other interesting variances out there??

              I'm about 45-50 grams even when running, too.

                Hi Jen,

                I dunno if I'd gain if I went over 50, maybe not .. but at 50 I feel satisfied, so that's where I stay. Wow, over 100?? I don't think I could eat that much! Good for you, though!!

                  Before Atkins I was taking in 250-300 carbs, some days almost 400....OH MY GOD!!! Makes me sick to think about it!!

                    10-20 carbs a day, usually more like 10 though. But I haven't exercised once since starting my diet either.
                    It was my choice to eat my way thin, instead of exercising my way thin. Everybodys different.

                      I am on rung 5 right now and I am taking in around 40 a day and still on the slllooowww lose.

                      I love this thread because it gives us an idea of what we can look forward to.

                      1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
                      what the rungs mean to me:
                      rung 1 - more veggies
                      rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
                      rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
                      rung 4 - berries, melon
                      rung 5 - wine -
                      rung 6 - beans, hummus
                      rung 7 - other fruits
                      rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
                      rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
                      Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
                      (on to pre-maintenance)

                        Regular days: 120-140

                        Exercise days: 140-180
                        Born 1967. 6' 1". Male.

                        Started Atkins 28th April, at 216 pounds. Met goal weight on 9th July, at 176 pounds. New goal is to become trimmer without losing weight.
