  • Snack Ideas?

At the maintenance level what are good quick nutritious snacks?
What kinds of fruits do you eat?

I need ideas, because school has started up again. I don't see myself carrying around chicken soup, so I need snack ideas. Thanks

    Re: Snack Ideas?

depends on what foods you can have without issue. I like an apple with peanut butter. Yogurt with fruit, usually berries. sometimes i'm lazy and i just have a protein shake. been actually doing that too often lately.

recently i've been on a hot salami and creams cheese kick, but it's put my sodium levels thru the roof!

Wasa crackers with cheese, peanut butter, etc are really good. I found a thai chili tuna that i really like with them too.

The tuna: I buy it at walmart, comes in small 1 serving cans. It does have a small amount of sugar in it, and 4g's of carbs per can. but it didn't seem to bother me much so I have it on occaision. I love it..it's got a really nice kick to it! here's a link to their site with a pic. there are other flavours too..haven't tried any of them yet.

This past summer i turned into a melon maniac! i just couldn't get enough of the stuff. I didn't have any issues with it though..do you notice it makes you retain water?

I like flax crackers and cheese as a snack. Also pistachio nuts (not too many though). Fruits, I eat small amounts of apple, strawberries and pears.
For a sweet snack, I like ricotta with cinnamon and splenda/saccharin.
Oh and in summer, prosciutto e melone... also caprese salad (tomatoes, basil and mozzarella with EVOO and salt)

Almond butter on anything is my new thing. It's a nice treat from Peanut butter.

Silly one of our major grocery stores just started selling a generic organic brand of 100% almond butter, that i can actually afford LOL. I love almond butter but the price used to kill me (it's about $7-10 a jar). I actually find that I have more control with almond butter than with peanut butter too.

Erica have you tried triscuits 'thin crisps'? I buy these allt he time. They're much thinner than a triscuit adn triangle shaped. You can eat more than you can the originals and they're awesome as a replacement for chips with dip or salsa. I find they're great when we have company so i'm not tempted to get into the chips or nachos.

Silly... almond butter sounds great. Can't get it here... I wonder if I just over-ground the almonds, would it make almond butter? And, does it have salt in it, do you think?

sally if you have a food processor you should be able to make it yourself..i've made peanut butter and it came out really good. i did add a bit of salt to it only because i like salted p. butter. takes a long time to get to the 'butter' stage but it will work!

Nabisco, they're actual triscuits! exactly the same but thinner. here's a link to what they look like. I always find them right beside the triscuits..they could be easy to miss since the box is almost identical:
