Has anyone ever come accross the occaisional energy slump in maintenance? I've noticed that every couple of months i get a couple of weeks where I'm just completely drained. I'm still exercising, eating tons of veggies, keeping my cals up. I've tried upping my carbs a bit with whole grains and higher carb veggies as well. It's also doesn't seem to be TOM/PMS related (originally thought it was), though it did seem to start around that time this month..but continued on for at least a week after. I could just sleep and sleep. And I'm terribly cranky as well, LOL the PMS starts then doesn't seem to end!

I'm wondering if it's hormone related? Like I said, in the past it has gone away, and i'm actually even feeling a bit better today. I'm trying to get back into ketosis to see if that will help a bit with the energy, i started two days ago and I think that may even be what's making me feel better today.

I may go to the Dr. if it happens again for some hormone tests..the crankiness is what's making me think that's what it is.

Just curious if anyone else has seen/had this.

well did you know that female bodies cycle in endurance and strenght in relationship to the phases of their TOM. they are actually doing studies at some major unicversities to see if altering the training schedules for female athletes to account for that cycling would be of any benefit for them in both improved performance and avoidance of injury.

    Happy low carbing.

As much good as Atkins has done for me, it's not fixed every problem in my life. I still have allergies, I'm still nearsighted, and I'm still moody. To say nothing of my love life.

I would suggest talking to your doctor for other causes, to make sure you don't have an underlying medical issue. Then keep a diary for awhile to see if you can find a trigger. It could be something environmental, could be your emotional reaction to something, stress, too many activities, not enough sunlight... the possibilities are endless.

Although it is very important what we put into our bodies, it's also very important what we put into our minds. It's been said that depression is anger without the focus, so there could be something from as far back as your childhood that periodically pops up to sap your strength. It could be current work or relationship struggles.

        Hope you find the cause.

I have found just recently, that I too, feel a loss of energy.

I have not had any changes in diet or exercise, and no major life/stressfull issue. I was thinking that is was just a fluke, having to do with my period. I upped my intake of water and cut back on my sodium, which seemed to have helped and the phase passes after about a week.

          Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies, It did go away then reappeared yesterday, I am thinking it may be mild depression though i'm not sure why...I'm gonna make a Dr.s appt too. It may be medical but i'm doubting it...I read that thyroid problems can cause crankiness and loss of energy, though i really have no other symptoms? I've also started taking a b complex vitamin hoping that will help too.

Hopefully it'll pass..but it's concerning me. I've done this woe for over a year now, and this just seemed to happen out of the blue.

I'll keep you posted what i learn from the Dr.

Sometimes, we, as women, just take on too much. I know I'm guilty of it.

I suggest you invest in the book "Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much." Very good reading and an eye opener.

Its so easy to spread yourself too thin trying to be all things to all people. I speak from experience here ... and because I was doing it, I ended up dealing with severe depression last winter ... I am since doing ALOT better thanks to a knowledgeable doctor and psychologist who helped me see that I have limits and I am NOT in charge of the universe! :nono

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks betty! I actually work from home as well which doesn't help (i work for a company that has a work-at-home option) So i don't have the people aspect as much as i used too..and i know sometimes that can affect me alot, especially in the winter. I'm raising a 16 yr old orphaned cousin with behaviour issues, plus all the regular house stuff, and we have a cottage (just like having a second house) so you're probably right about the limits. I will mention that to my dr...

I'm also going to try going into the office a bit more, though it's 50 miles from here so it can get expensive for gas. And now that summers almost here i should be outside more.

It's funny, I didn't realize how much responsiblity i had until i typed this LOL.

                thanks :hug
