  • Three times per week vs. everyday...

Well guys, here's my dumb question of the week:

Am on the dairy rung of OWL. I have introduced yogurt. No problems eating that delicious Greek yogurt three times a week. Now I'm in the week where I can eat it everyday, if I want. That's the point. I don't want. I might like it two or three times a week, but not every day.

So... instead of eating it every day, I've been skipping the odd day but making up the missing yogurt carbs (in the quest for the elusive CCLL) with extra salad, or other tried and tested stuff.

    Am I doing right? ensive

    Thanks for any thoughts

    Sal

Oh... forgot to ask also: In the 'every day' week... can I introduce another dairy food, or should I just do yogurt for the two weeks then move to another food. So far, I've been taking two weeks over a single new food.

    Tks again

Sal, you're on the right track. On the dairy rung, most everything will be "new to you" foods. 3 times a week is correct.

On the alternating days, when you don't have yogurt, you can have cottage cheese and various things on that rung. You don't have to have just 1 food.

If you don't want yogurt everyday (I don't blame you), introduce other dairies that you might like. This is where you will find your intolerances (if any).

Does any of this make sense?

Since you're on the subject of dairy I have a question about that rung. Is there a good list of dairy foods for that rung? When I look in dandr I see only five options and yogurt is not on the list. I've only had mozzarella and heavy cream from the book's list, but if there are other options I would love to have more variety.

First a question before I give any answers. Are you still trying to find your CCLL or have you found it and you're trying out the foods on the rungs or both?

If you are still trying to find your CCLL, then next week add 5 net carbs daily of another dairy rung food (low carb dairy beverage, cottage cheese, fresh mozarrella, etc.).

If you've found your CCLL and are just trying out the foods on the rungs, you can try out another dairy rung food. The thing about knowing your CCLL, is that you cannot go over that number, if you want to continue to lose weight. However, you can eat below it. Mine is 40. I don't eat 40 carbs daily. Sometimes I eat 20 carbs, sometimes I eat 30.

Back to yogurt again! On the Atkins Nutritionals site I was checking out 'The Atkins Glycemic Ranking' article which lists many foods in Eat Regularly, Eat in Moderation and Eat Sparingly columns. In the Eat Regularly column was low-carb yogurt and in the Eat in Moderation column was full-fat plain yogurt. So I looked at my local store for low-carb yogurt but didn't find any. The carbs in the regular plain yogurt were a shock so I didn't buy any. I live about an hour south east of Seattle so if anyone can help me out on where to find low-carb yogurt I'd appreciate it. I go to Trader Joe's occassionaly if anyone knows if they carry it.

Good low carb yogurts are hard to find. Dannon makes a low carb yogurt that's 3g but it's a VERY small serving. It also contains fruit. I couldn't find one in plain flavor.

When I get to that rung, I might make my own. :nod

I also wanted plain Debbiethehugbug since I want to use it as I like and not just a snack. With the sweet ones I was a little worried about hidden carbs, and the sweet snacky ones are a real trigger for me. I can't have just one! I may resort to to making it also.
