    Hello everyone :wave :help :help
    Sorry for the long absence just moved to a new place and still dont have internet set up. Ok ive decided that OWL is essential to this way of life so i plan on starting owl this monday but i need to clear up alot of things that are confusing me. Ive read all the stickies some abit confusing. :confused :confused Here goes:-

    1) Given the Carb ladder are we allowed to add anything that would fall under those categories eg.
    milk in the diary section?

    2) Is the 5g net carb or 5g carb count

    3) Is it possible to reintroduce regular flour and when would i introduce it?

    4) is it ok for me instead of adding 5 carbs weekly i add it every two weeks?

    5) can someone please give me a list of whats classified as hard or soft cheese.

    I think thats all for the time being all replies will be highly appreciated. I'm so nervous this will be the first time ive done OWL so i want to do it right. Also anyone with additional sites i can read information from please pass them on. Im doing as much reading on this topic as possible.

    I am glad you have found your way back to us!
    You add back 5 net carbs of anything that falls under that rung. So yes you could have 5 net varbs worth of milk.

    I dont have my book handy you whould have to check on the reg. flour but even if it is ok that would be the grain rung.

    You can go even slower then every week. I went up 1 rung about every month.

    Again DANDR lists all the cheeses, check that out. Mine is in my car and I am not dresses to go out and get it-lol[/b]

      :icondance :icondance Im so happy you have no idea ive missed milk so much im thinking ill drink soy milk if thats ok.

      In this country i cant get any low-carb foods its hard enough to try and get the right sweetener.

      Thanks alot for the tips i lent out my book ill just go get another copy soon. The milk thing really frustrated me cause on the atkins FAQ site they say not allowed till ure in pre-maintenance then when u look through the power of five list its there rather abit confusing."4 ounces whole milk"

      Is this right?

      "Grains:
      • 1 Rye Crisp cracker
      • 1 cup plain popcorn
      • 1/2 cup puffed brown-rice cereal "(from atkins.com power of five)

      Anyway tomorrow is the big start date wish me luck. Thanks again.

        You can make a lot of your native Malaysian foods Atkins friendly. I noticed when I was going through the recipes for cookbook I bought there, it always had sugars in their foods and coconut milk was a big factor. Also, a lot of onions and shallots were used, so I got around this by reducing the amounts so it wouldn't put up the carb count too much. I would either cut out the sugar or use Splenda (but I could do without this) Trying to cut out/limit coconut milk is difficult though, it is do-able, but it sure gives a different taste to the foods. Also, you could keep eating tofu if you don't get a lot of chances to eat cheese.

          Good luck with starting OWL - veggies is the first rung btw

          Soy milk wont be 'legal' till you reach the 'Legumes' rung :sadblinky but once you are on the Dairy rung you can drink cow's milk :yes

            Now i get i didnt understand why i was allowed milk in the dairy section and soy milk was grouped in the legumes section. Thanks alot for clearing that up. Today is day 1 scarred as ****.

            Looked at my scale and found i was a firm 158pounds Im so scarred that by moving onto owl ill gain weight But the only way to find out is by trying so thanks alot here goes!!! Veggies Rung 1

            P.s thanks tickletussler for the tips(im not malaysia but do love the food) they eat too much sugar, its sugar with the malays and salt with the chinese but im adjusting the recipes i use coconut cream instead of coconut milk. Would love to exchange recipes do send some along. thanks Didi
