  • Just thinkin' About One's CCL

I haven't figured out my CCL yet. I'm eating an average of ohhh...35 net carbs a day right now and am staying at the berry rung level. I'm losing about a pound a week and am really satisfied with all the food choices I have here.

Anyways, I got to thinking.....is your CCL a static number? I mean, let's say I knew my CCL today, at my current weight and fitness level. I still have fifty pounds to lose. I'm becoming more fit every day as I run further, swim further, cycle more, etc. I know Dr. Atkins talks about how your CCL is also effected by things such as fitness and exercise. So, if my CCL is 50 today could it be 60 when I get to my goal weight? Could it be even higher as my fitness improves? If so, should one experiment with those numbers often especially if you're exercising a lot?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I don't think it's static because when I first found my CCLL it was 30. I'm less fat now and I'm more active, so I decided to experiment and I found that I can eat up to 40 nets and still lose. Also for a while before I looked for my new CCLL, I was feeling really tired all the time and I would be raving hungry after my walks, which made it easier to overeat. When I found my new CCLL, I'm not as tired and not as hungry---I guess my bod was needing more fuel than I was giving it.

So, it may be worthwhile experimenting with your CCL often, especially if you still have a lot of weight to lose. Interesting!

yep if changes and your activities can change it when I was recovering from my knees spring 2004 I had to cut my carbs back to 45 net to keep from gaining but the week before the scoping it was 110 net carbs.

Hormones for women can effect it too so it can cycle during the month in respoince to TOM changes. different meds can efiect it to as can your immunsystem.

Keep checking and if you get stalled the first thing you should do is just drop your carbs by 5 net for that week and see if your scales move downward. if not try 5 more and then do the checking of various foods to see if you got a staller going you didn't know about.

Conversely when you increase your activities you will need more carbs for fuel if it is going to be a life long change but you don't need to carb load just 5-10 more net until you find the level at which your energy and weight are balanced as Megs did.

        Happy OWLing.

Wow, this is exactly what I needed to hear this morning. I started a running program a few weeks ago (really more of a 'wog' walk/jog) and have noticed that I am just wiped out since then. I brushed it off for the first couple of weeks thinking it was just the heat or stress, but I'm wondering now if it isn't related to my increased workouts. I am in OWL rung 2, but I often eat under my CCL when I want the weight to come off more quickly. But this might explain it! I'll up my carbs a bit on days that I run and see if that helps.

I love this board - I learn so much!

WOG, I love it! Yes, I feel like a walking science experiment, and I'm the subject and the mad scientist!

As my workouts with my trainer increased in intensity, I had to up my carbs or I would die halfway through our sessions. I have found that on my cardio only days, I can go back down to lower amounts, even though I do an hour on the elliptical, at a pace equal to a jog or a wog.

So even though I don't know my CCL yet, I eat anywhere from 20-40 net carbs on any given day.
