  • Alcohol Rung

Just as an FYI, in Atkins For Life, it's stated that they removed the Alcohol Rung from OWL as it offered no nutritional value to ones diet. I doubt anyone who enjoys the spirits will pay that much attention, but it is in the book.

Me, I enjoy an occasional margarita or daiquiri, but haven't had one since started this WOE.

    Just thought I'd share....

If I indulge, I usually drink Rolling Rock Green Light beer or Amstel Light. I had a sip of a margarita a few weeks ago and found it to be too sweet for me. It's amazing how sweet things are since I started this WOL.

Yeah, Dr. Atkins got rid of the alcohol rung in Atkins for Life not only for the nutritive value but also because he found people using their carbs for booze rather than for more healthful foods.

My alcohol rung consisted of using alcohol in cooking---there's some things that don't taste the same if you leave the alcohol out.

Imagine that! ROTFL!! I've never cared for the taste of alcohol, but the occasional foo foo drink is nice......

Studies have shown that very moderate amounts of alcohol are good for your health.
I really think it could be a part of a healthy diet.
I think people should wait 'til they're near goal because alcohol can stall you.

My part would just have to be a foo foo drink because I can't stand the taste of wine, beer or hard liquor. In my younger days , when I'd go partying, I'd opt for vodka and 7up with lemon - gave me the buzz I wanted and you couldn't taste the booze.

Although I did find that I liked Amaretta - they used to serve shot glasses of Amaretta with a layer of cream slowly poured so it would sit on top of the Amaretta - that was YUMMY and warmed the tummy. Oh poo, now I'm thinking about that! I guess I'll go eat a mocha blob...

That's defined as "1 drink" for a woman and "2 drinks" for a man.

              One drink is
5 fluid ounces non-fortified wine (Merlot, Sauvignon, etc.)
1 .5 fluid ounce 80 proof distilled liquor
              12 fluid ounces beer

              http://www.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/aa16.htm

I used to work for a old-timer doctor who said if a patient tells you they drink 3 beers a day, multiply that number by 3 or 4 and you'll get a better idea of what they really drink.

I thought rum, gin, whiskey & vodka had no carbs?????? so if you had a rum and diet coke (for instance) you are fine......

**I hope!!!! thats what I had friday....

The problem with even no-carb booze is the alcohol!!

Your body will use the alcohol for fuel instead of what you are eating and guess what it does with the fat and carbs in that food????
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
