  • Not a question... just a ramble?

    Hi Everyone!

I haven't been around these parts in a while - I've been working 70 hour weeks at work as we attempt to get the new version of our website live next week. Which means very little time to do the things I like to do, like participate in these boards!

A side effect of these 70 hour weeks is that I'm not working OWL as I should be. This is my second week of the nuts rung, and I'm supposed to be hitting 30g of carbs each day. I knew the nuts rung would be easy for me - I'm having no problem with any of that part of it. Its the hitting 30g of carbs that I'm having trouble with - the only way I can reach 30g on any given day is if I sit down and plan my day of food out meticulously to ensure I get that high. Otherwise, I'll stick to the 18-24g range naturally. With having zero time these days to do much but work and sleep, I haven't been able to sit down and plan so I could hit those 30g and find my CCLL!!

Coupled with that is that next week my husband and I are moving, and with me working so much, we have yet to pack much. So, essentially, the next few weeks are going to involve me having very little time to plan my food.

So I need to figure out a way to deal with all this until I have the time again.

I figure, I'll stick with the nuts rung for the next little while, and not worry about bumping myself up to 30 everyday (though 30 will still be my max.) until I'm back into the swing of things in terms of my time. Then I'll still be on the nuts rung, but able to plan my days out in advance to see if where 30g is at in my journey towards finding my CCLL!

How does that sound to you all? Or does anyone have a better way of dealing with something like this?

    You should be fine.
I never strictly counted carbs. I just read labels and carb counts so I basically learned what contains what.
So I figure about x carbs this meal, y carbs that meal, and z carbs as snacks and tried to fit foods into that plan. But at the end of the day I didn't know precisely how many carbs I ate.

      Hiya Ry,

You're on the nuts rung now right? You see, I get the impression that the higher the OWL rung, the higher GI and the more carb-laden they are.

SO, I was wondering, you can't make it to 30g carb being on Nuts, what about trying every single new nut that you wanna try in the Nut rung, then moving on to the next rung up? As you add new foods back from the rungs, you will find that you can also add back some of the more carb-dense foods

... or did you want to stay in the Nuts rung?

I asked coz I want to stay on the Veggies rung to find my CCLL and I was struggling at first trying to eat SO many cups of vegggies to meet 25g, but then i discovered I could easily swap 3-4 cups spinach with a veg like pumpkin, turnip or a higher-carb veggie. So I'm wondering if you could maybe find a higher carb nut or something?
