  • I am so confused...

Let me start by saying I began this program 7 weeks ago at 316.5. I am at 298 now and have been there for the last 3 weeks. I am trying to decide if I am stuck because I need to go to OWL or because I am fighting off Candida. I took the yeast test one day - no yeast. Three days later - YEAST I have a friend who went from 450 to 140 on Atkins. She has been giving me wonderful recipes to try out but I am wonderning if some of them are stalling me. I am supposed to be in Extended Induction.

Could any of the below items be stalling me or am I already eating in more of an OWL style? Sometimes I eat 2 cups alone of the broccoli cauliflower salad?

    Sausage stuffed mushrooms

Flax bread -Davinci syrups used - I have 2/16 th of a loaf in the mornings - she told me flax was ok during induction and some others have mentioned it was good as well, but...

Deep dish pizza - tons of cheese!

Broccoli Cauliflower salad - with bacon mayo cheese splenda and vinegar

Cottage cheese with davinci syrup and cinnamon

I had been eating a lot of cheeses - cream cheese, cottage, etc. I am beginning to think far too many. And the mushrooms - it was soooo good I made it twice a week for the last couple of weeks to keep in the fridge but I never ate mushrooms before, so...

I am basically trying to decide if I am overdoing it with yeast promoting ingredients or if I need to move on to OWL?

    I am very confused

I will stay on my diet. I will get healthy and lose weight. There is nothing I could eat or drink that tastes as good as how I feel at this moment on this WOE ~ nothing!

First off, "Extended" Induction is a phrase this board uses for folks who are extending their Induction period beyond the first 14 days. In other words, you're still following the Induction Rules and eating only what's in the Induction Acceptable Foods list. Therefore, cottage cheese, 2 cups of broccoli/cauliflower, and "ton's of cheese" aren't Induction compatible. Secondly, the artificial sweetener amounts don't change throughout the diet. So it's 3 servings max in Induction, OWL, and Pre-Maintenance.

Secondly, it's quite common for folks to experience a "mini-stall" between the 3rd to 6th week of the Diet. Dr. Atkins explained it as water retention.

As for your menu, you're in a pickle because you've added quite a bit of foods AND you haven't been following your Induction phase very well. Quite frankly, it looks like you've been doing your own version of OWL.

My advice to you is to go back to the basics of Induction for a few days, then make up your mind: do you want to continue with Induction (following the Induction rules and eating only what's on the Induction list) or do you want to move into OWL or do the "modified" OWL.

Yep, that's what I am going to do. I have already cut out the cheese completely - today is day 3 and go back to exactly what I did the first few weeks.

I also bought the physullium husks powder this morning and then a probiotic in hope that will help as well.

        Thank you.

If you think yeast is a problem with you, then I suggest you re-read the Candida chapter in the book and visit the Candida forum here. Along with cheese, nuts, fermented condiments (vinegar, soy sauce, etc.) and other foods harbor yeast and can aggravate yeast-related symptoms.

I'd hesitate before consuming BOTH flax bread AND psyllium.....that's a LOT of fiber.

I am going to cut out the flaxbread for awhile. Some people have said it is not appropriate for induction while others say yes. I was not eating it when I lost the majority of the weight so I am gonna go back to what I did then.

                  Hey Betty,

Like I said, 3 days no cheese at all. This morning - 2 pounds gone and I finally broke to 20 pounds for the first time!! Yipee, I can live without cheese!

Thanks for all the advice. I feel like this was such a learning experience for me and what I learned the most - I am NOT a quitter any more! Thanks all
